Freaky Fridays

by Cynthia on November 8th, 2007

new_amsterdam.jpgAccording to an article in Variety, Fox has scheduled mid-season replacement New Amsterdam on Friday’s at 9:00 starting February 22.   This means that this new series, about an immortal detective, would be going head-to-head with the vampire detective over on CBS.  What were they thinking?  It’s clear that New Amsterdam and  are aimed at the same audience.  Of course, all of this could be a moot point if the writers’ strike continues and Moonlight goes off air.

New Amsterdam was originally scheduled for the fall and was pushed back at the last minute, so they already have episodes in the can.  Maybe that’s Fox’s thinking.  If Moonlight should have to bow out early, they can swoop in and steal that audience for their similarly themed show.

The real loser here?  Friday Night Lights over on NBC, which hasn’t seen a major improvement in the ratings since being given a second chance at life.  I love my FNL, but I think their season is just about over.

Are you kidding me? As if New Amsterdam could even compete with Moonlight. It may cause some interest, but Moonlight has it’s audience and this (New Amsterdam) would be a cheap imitation of a mesmerizing great show. I’m sticking with Moonlight. Alex O’Loughlin is what draws you in and keeps you watching for more.

While the shows may air in the same time slot, they really aren’t that much alike… and people such as Canaberra do themselves a disservice talking about something as an ‘imitation’ when they haven’t seen it. In fact, the pilot for NA was filmed prior to Moonlight.

However, the bottom line is that Moonlight is a great show. New Amsterdam, ALSO, has the makings of a great show.
