Dano,

They're releasing Origins as a trade paperback with all of the comics in the series in one book, but they'll have the changes that Peter wanted after talking with fans.

I don't think "praise' in the Winchester world is the same as in the regular world. The comics aren't likely to portray John as father of the year. I take this to mean in Sam's eyes - it appears that Dean is the "good son", the one who can do no wrong. The one dad spends hours and hours with. (Sam doesn't understand that it's survival training.)

AMEN, Emily. You said it perfectly. Sometimes I think that the fans understand the show better than the comic book writers, which worries me because they're supposed to be canon...

Wait, Dean getting all the praise and attention? What the heck? In Devil's Trap, Dean knew his father was possessed because John actually said something nice to him about saving his brother instead of focusing on the fact that he used one of the bullets. One of the demon's main taunts towards him was that at least by fighting with Sam John was showing more care and concern than he ever showed for Dean, which while a taunt, would have been meant to hit home with the fact that Dean didn't get much attention at all, positive or negative.

Dean's whole adult psyche as it's been portrayed is not that of a man whose childhood was filled with praise from his revenge obsessed father. It's the psyche of a man who rarely got positive attention and was desperate for any crumb of it he could get from his revenge obsessed father. It's pretty clear from the show that Dean got alot of orders he was supposed to follow, criticism when he was less than perfect and otherwise not much attention as an individual at all. Dean just didn't get yelled at alot because he did everything he was told to do so Sam interpreted this as positive. Dean was a little soldier and that by and large is how he was treated. I hope they haven't forgotten that and confused it with a father giving a son praise. They completely undermine Dean's whole psychology as they have presented it on the show if they do. When his mother died, he lost his father almost every bit as much as he lost his mother. Lost a father and gained a drill sargeant.

So, I'm assuming that when he shows up at the school, Sammy won't understand the "blood and guts" because he doesn't learn what John does until age 9. And I don't think John relished a lot of praise on Dean causing a Sam to be hurt. Dean's adult psyche doesn't really fit with that. Now I do believe that John treated the boys differently...Sam has pointed out that Dean was Daddy's little soldier...and we know that Dean started way earlier than Sam as far as hunting. These are not criticisms...obviously I've not read a single new comic, just going by what's in this article so I'd say they're more observation than anything else.

I have the complete set of Origins, flaws and all, and I will definitely sign up for the new comics. And I appreciate Peter being so receptive to the concerns of the fans.
