I Hear Dead People

December 10, 2007 by Cynthia

rparanormalstate.jpgIf you’re walking down a dark, lonely street in New York City and you hear a voice inside your head — fear not. You haven’t lost your mind, you’ve simply come across an innovative new advertisement for A&E’s Paranormal State.

The technology behind it is called HoloSonic and it actually projects a sound wave into your brain so you literally are hearing voices in your head. Creepy, huh? Ironically, the technology was made for less creepy uses such as providing tours in quiet places such as museums or reducing noise pollution in the city. But people who experienced the voices late at night weren’t thinking ads when the female voice said, “It’s not your imagination. . . ”

Intrusive, maybe? Cool? Definitely! And if you’re in Los Angeles you might have seen the spooky billboard where the mechanical face pushes through? It’s all designed to make you tune in tonight when A&E premieres Paranormal State. It’s Blair Witch meets The Real World as college students struggle with schoolwork, dating and ghost hunting!

Visit the official website for a preview and to get in on the ghost hunting. If you love all things supernatural (great fodder for you Supernatural fan fic writers), don’t miss the Paranormal State Insider blog where you can submit your own ghost story or urban legend.

Star Trek: The Tour

December 9, 2007 by Cynthia

If you’re even mildly into Star Trek, this is one exhibit you won’t want to miss.  The traveling Star Trek Tour from Creation is a one-of-a-kind experience that really takes you into the Trek world.  Sets, props, motion-simulation rides — this is like visiting a Star Trek Theme Park.

Here’s what Creation has to say:

To our fellow Star Trek fans:

We’ve very happy to share the announcement of the upcoming STAR TREK: THE TOUR, a 50,000 square foot traveling interactive exhibit of Star Trek sets, props, models, motion-simulator rides and more from all five Trek series and all ten Trek films. The tour will visit 40 cities around the country, kicking off in Long Beach California on January 18th, 2008.

Creation will be represented with our line of autographed collectibles in the sales boutique and we’ll also be helping to coordinate celebrity appearances along the way. We hope to see a lot of friendly faces of folks that have attended our conventions in the past at the various tour stops.

Past Creation guests have helped to put together the tour including production designer Herman Zimmerman, costume designer Robert Blackman and make-up genius Michael Westmore. Gene’s son Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry provides some narration for the exhibits and Creation’s good friend, the one and only William Shatner, is serving as the official ambassador of the tour.

Highlights of STAR TREK THE TOUR include:

Detailed recreations of original sets from Star Trek: The Next Generation, including Captain Picard’s quarters, Dr. Crusher’s sick bay and the majestic NCC-1701-D Bridge.

st_tour_floorplan.jpgThe chance to take a ride through a Star Trek adventure in four full-motion, show-based flight simulators.

An all-new multimedia Encounter Theater, built like a theater in the round with 360 degree video screens. Computer-generated sequences put visitors in the middle of the Star Trek action.

The opportunity for exhibit-goers to sit on a full-size Enterprise bridge from the original TV series and have their photo taken and superimposed with an image of the original cast – including Spock, McCoy and Scotty – to look as if the Enterprise crew is standing right next to them.

The ability for guests to star with the original cast in an episode of their choice and watch themselves interact with Star Trek icons such as Spock and Scotty. Guests can take home a DVD of their cameo to share with family and friends.

Supernatural Revelations: An Exclusive Interview with Peter Johnson

December 7, 2007 by Cynthia

spn_origins_2.jpg

By Cynthia Boris

In the last frame of the final issue of Supernatural Origins, John Winchester realizes that he is surrounded by darkness and to survive he must find the light. That “light” is the face of 4-year-old Dean waiting for him in the front window. It’s baby Sam, who gurgles and laughs for the price of a tickle. It’s John’s boys, their innocence, which will see him through. And thus the series ends. . . except that it’s really more of a beginning.

This week, I chatted with Supernatural Co-Executive Producer and author of the Supernatural comics, Peter Johnson. We talked about the upcoming Supernatural six-issue comic series, the changes you’ll find in Origins: The Director’s Cut, and about Chuck.

Yes, Chuck.

In addition to his work with Supernatural, Peter is Co-Executive Producer of the NBC comedy/spy series, which he labels as ” breezy, quirky and funny.” NBC recently picked up the “back nine”, which means that Chuck, Sarah and the rest of the Nerd Herd will be around for a full season. With that in mind, Peter hints that there may be comics in Chuck’s future… and that’s information so secret, you won’t even find it in The Intersect!

Right now, however, Peter is spending his time working on the new series of Supernatural comics tentatively titled, Supernatural Revelations.

“The first one was clearly John’s awakening as a hunter, now the second series explores the triangle of the family — of John and the boys.”

Another Communique from John Connor

December 7, 2007 by Cynthia

Last night I came home to find a note taped to my front door almost hidden by the Christmas wreath hanging there. It was instructions for how to find a particular safe deposit box. As it was the middle of the night, I had to wait until this morning when the bank opened to use the key I was sent last week to open the box. What I found inside was a video communique from John Connor. I think it must be from the future. The video breaks up badly in spots but John’s message is clear. We must act now if we’re going to save the world. And he’s asking a whole lot more than just remembering to turn off a light bulb and driving a hybrid car. This isn’t about “thinking green” people. This is about revolution.

Vote Now for Chuck & Moonlight

December 7, 2007 by Cynthia

nominated_badge.jpgVoting for the 34th Annual People’s Choice Awards is just about over, but there are two special categories that will stay open until show time. It’s Favorite New TV Comedy and Favorite New TV Drama and each category contains one of my favorite shows! How perfect is that.

Chuck and Moonlight have been nominated in the comedy and drama categories respectively, and I want you to go there right now and cast your vote! Both of these shows have totally captivated me this season and I can’t wait to see where they take me.

Chuck is a quirky, comedy spy series about a computer nerd who becomes a spy by accident. Moonlight is a cool, noir-style private detective show whose lead happens to be a vampire! Both leads have charm and charisma in two entirely different ways but they’re both long on action with a side of romance.

Watch Chuck, Monday’s at 8:00 on NBC and Moonlight Fridays at 9:00 on CBS. But before you do, click the Vote Now pic and cast your vote for these fun and fabulous new shows.

SCIFi Makes a Run for the Money

December 6, 2007 by Cynthia

the-running-man-movie.jpg

Ever see Running Man?  The movie about a gameshow where prisoners run for their lives while being chased by themed hunters who are out to kill them? Before you laugh, check out the description of the new SCI FI Channel Game/Reality Show, Run for the Money.

Run For Money is an action-packed, edge-of-your-seat reality competition show that pits a group of contestants against each other in the quest for cash prizes, while being stalked by relentless “hunters.” Based on a successful Japanese format from Fuji Television, the action takes place over 60 minutes of real time in various landmark locations. As the clock winds down, the competition gets harder as more hunters appear on the streets, the game perimeter gets smaller, and tasks are assigned that test fraying nerves. Contestants earn money for every second they “stay alive” and may opt out at their choosing. If they keep playing and are overrun by a hunter, they lose everything. The last person standing takes the prize.

Apparently the only difference between this show and Running Man is that the players don’t actually die if a hunter catches up to them.  Hmm. . .note to potential contestants — read the fine print before you sign.

Production begins in January in Los Angeles.
