Cloverfield Upsets Records and Stomachs
January 21, 2008 by Cynthia
While Cloverfield is upsetting box office records, it’s also upsetting stomachs in theaters across America. The “Blair Witch” style, shaky camera work that is the trademark of the film is forcing many movie goers to loose their proverbial popcorn. Many people have reported feeling nauseous quite early on and others were feeling the effects long after they headed home.
Still, the prospect of ending up with a cinematic hangover hasn’t deterred people from buying tickets. Cloverfield has already broken the record for the best January debut ever and it’s still on the rise.
Check out our dizzying Cloverfield poll over in the sidebar, then take a look at what others are saying about this monster movie with the stomach churning twist.

Some theaters are even posting nausea warnings ( http://www.gorillasushi.com/?q=node/641 )
The theater I went to had that warning. And definitely it was just. The first half was more jarring than the later bits – just the running bits made you dizzy. But overall I loved the film. Stayed true to the documentary style.
I went to see Cloverfield last Monday and had to leave halfway through it. It’s the only movie that’s ever literally made me sick. I went home and slept for two hours and was ok. It’s kind of a shame because I liked what I saw of the movie. Maybe movie theatres need to follow the lead of airlines and provide customers with barf bags (just kidding).
After seeing Cloverfield, my thought was maybe movie theatre owners should supply customers with barf bags like the airlines do. This was a first for me.
