Supernatural: Jus in Bello Description

February 4, 2008 by Cynthia

The CW has put out the official description of what could be Supernatural’s finale episode of the season.  Be warned — it’s VERY SPOILERY!

It’s directed by our favorite director, Kim Manners and written by our favorite writer, Sera Gamble, so it’s likely to be a lollapalooza.  Ironically, it even sounds like a season finale.

Jus in Bello

Air Date: Feb 21, 2008

Jus-in-Bello-06 AGENT HENRICKSEN CATCHES UP WITH SAM AND DEAN — Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) break into Bela’s (Lauren Cohan) apartment in order to get the Colt back, but she has tipped off Agent Henricksen (guest star C. Malik Whitfield) about their whereabouts and they are arrested. While Sam and Dean are locked in a cell in Colorado, a demon breaks in and kills some of the sheriff’s men and possesses Henricksen. After the guys vanquish the demon, the FBI agent realizes they were telling the truth and prepares to release them, but Ruby (guest star Katie Cassidy) shows up to a warn Sam and Dean that the jailhouse is surrounded by a band of demons with a powerful new leader who wants Sam dead. Kim Manners directed the episode written by Sera Gamble.

    OMG !!!
I am one of the uberspoiled Supernatural fan… I knew the plot of Jus de Bello, knew about Hendricksen being possessed… knew about Ruby and the Army and the Leader (ok I assumed he would show up here)… but… WTF… Bella stole the Colt ??? That B!t$h !!!
I was actually wondering why she didn’t get it before being the pain in the a$$ that she is… well I guess I didn’t have to wait that long…
This time I sincerely hope that Dean goes through his threat and kills her… GRRR Threatening her about 6 times apparently doesn’t help… not in public ok but go ahead !!! *evil laugh*
I am not a Bela fan by the way… And the more I see/hear from her… the more this feeling grows !! LOL

Wow, is all I have to say. I know Henricksen was in it but I did not know he was possessed. This is going to be a fantastic episode. I am so sad that is will be the last one for season 3. I hope the writer’s strike ends soon so that maybe there will be more episodes but I won’t hold my breathe. I wonder if Dean will kill Bela now that she has stolen the colt and put them in danger yet again. Please off her so I don’t have to listen to that horrible British accent.

WOW….finally the FBI on the Winchesters side. My bet is that he will get killed off and they will blame the boys for it in season 4…if there is a season 4. And this evil demon going after Sam and Dean’s time running out….tensions mounting very fast.

I don’t think Henricksen will be killed off, it’ll be too soon, and Kripke will have to give Henricksen Fans a very good explaination as to “why” it happened. I sure as hell hope Victor Henricksen doesn’t get slaughtered in either Season 3 or Season 4. I hope he at least lasts for a Season 5. :p

As for the Winchesters, time is catching up with them and Fate will have their Destiny ready with open arms. I’m sure Kripke has more concepts and will throw out more surprises like he has done thus far.

    Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
Sam and Dean find one of Bela’s hide-outs, only to learn she has evaded them again, and this time, has the Colt with her. To make matters worse, she tips off the FBI about the “wanted Winchesters” and we are re-introduced to Agent Henrickson.
Henrickson was played with an almost giddiness as he relished in his catch. His superior officer arrives in a helicopter, ready to bring the boys to justice. Only problem, his boss is possessed. Then Henrickson, himself, becomes possessed and gains a great understanding of what the Winchesters and their hunting is all about.
While in jail, Dean gets shot, Sammy aptly recites Latin, demon possession is thwarted, there’s a huge explosion destroying the helicopter, and we learn that both boys have tattoos now, of devil’s traps, to protect them from demon possession.
With his new-found faith in the Winchesters abilities, Henrickson buckles down and readies for the onslaught of demons swarming about. It seems that all the town-folk have become black-eyed demons and it’s only after serious thought that Sam and Dean come up with a plan that does not include sacrificing Ruby or the sweet virgin Nancy.
With salt in place and devil’s traps laid, the lines are broken which allows all the possessed into the police station. With Sam and Dean pinned to the wall it is clearly time for phase two of the plan…and a mass exorcism was performed by playing a tape over the speaker system.
Henrickson is happy to let the boys go…and to state that they died in the helicopter explosion.
Sam and Dean leave the police station, now able to travel about freely no longer fugitives from the law. They are quite pleased with themselves, the salvation of human life, and the first win in the “battle” involving the demon in the west.
Then Ruby barges in to the hotel and demands they turn on the tv. Sam and Dean are aghast to learn that everyone they saved, trusted and befriended were killed when the police station went up in flames. Ruby smirks happily in a “I told you so” sort of way. And we the viewer know that the fire and death toll was caused by the newly revealed demon of the west, a seemingly innocent young girl….named Lilith.
Overall, this was an excellent episode. It showed the cocky Dean we know and love, but also gave us a glimpse of a more heartless, ready to sacrifice an innocent human, somber Sam.
Whatever points Katie Cassidy earned in her previous performance (refer to Malleus Maleficarum), she completely lost, and perhaps slipped into the negatives. Her acting was abysmal, one dimensional and extremely stiff. She is a lovely girl, but she just doesn’t take to the camera. Nor does she play her character well.
There has been some debate about the placement of this episode–and that it was to appear before Mystery Spot prior to the writer’s strike. In my opinion, I don’t think it made any difference at all. Sam realizes that he can’t save Dean, and he’s trying to come to terms with that fact without the need for the Trickster’s intervention.
It will be an excruciating wait until April for the four new episodes ordered by the CW. For now, we fans will just have to delight in discussion about Lilith, Dean’s deal and of course, the path that Sam chooses to take as he becomes a warrior in the battle against the demons.

  6. Caryn says:

I was sad to see Agent Henricksen and the other people killed by Lilith after the major battle scene. Ruby gives the boys some protection against the new player but she was not there to fight with the boys when they did not want to sacrifice the virgin for the spell.
Now we have to wait until April to see how this will affect the Winchesters and the war against the demons.
