Chibnall to Leave Torchwood?
February 22, 2008 by Cynthia
Chris Chibnall, the head writer and creative force behind Torchwood will leave the show if it’s picked up next year according to an article in Torchwood magazine.
Chibnall is taking on Law & Order: London and says he simply doesn’t have the time to do both.
As much as I love the idea of Law & Order: London, I fear for the direction of Torchwood if a new showrunner is brought in. The series walks a difficult line between campy and dramatic and I’m not sure an outsider would be able to take on those nuisances. Here’s hoping they bump someone up from inside the ranks.
Look for more in the 2nd issue of Titan’s Torchwood Magazine on stands in the UK right now.
On an odd note, Variety had an interesting article about how the new Law & Order series will be scripted:
“Law & Order: London” will rely on scripts originally written for the U.S. show but reworked to meet local customs. For example, instead of defense attorneys, barristers will be seen representing the accused.
Reworking scripts? Seems to me that London would have plenty of their own news stories that could be “ripped from the headlines” without taking over ours.
Good luck, Chris. I’ll be watching!

Law and Order: London? Is there some kind of spinoff contest between them and CSI?
What’s next? CSI: Cardiff?
