Use The Force, Or Just Sue The Guy

by brian on April 10th, 2008

Our b5media buds over at Brandcurve were all over this one. Star Wars creator George Lucas is embroiled in a lawsuit with one of the designers of the Stormtrooper armor. Andrew Ainsworth has been selling replicas of the original helmets and armor on his website and in 2006 Lucas won a $20 million judgment.

Now Lucas wants that decision enforced in Britain as well, claiming that many people were involved in the design before Ainsworth came on board. He’ll need that ruling since Ainsworth lives in Britain. Ainsworth’s countersuit says the trademark on the designs is his and Lucas owes him profits from all six movies. He’s seeking $24 billion.

Not that Lucas couldn’t scratch off a $24 billion check without missing it, but I tend to agree with Brandcurve’s Susan on this one. I think Lucas’ lawyers are going to be all over this like Clone Troops on a Jedi Knight. The case is expected to last 10 days.

Too bad Lucas’ lawyers cannot use the Jedi mind trick on this particular trooper…”This is not the compensation you seek.”; “Drop lawsuit, you will.”

Ahhh, Yoda…his voice & vernacular is timeless…Thanks to Frank Oz.

    –Godspeed–
