What Did I Just Say About Remakes?

We may need to have a separate feature for revamps, reimaginings and redos of sci-fi films. If you filtered the day’s entertainment news and took out the stuff that’s been done before, there wouldn’t be much left.

Today’s case in point: Variety is reporting that Fox 2000 is ordering up a remake of Brian De Palma’s 1978 film The Fury. I had to look all the following information up because I have never seen or even heard of this movie. The original starred Kirk Douglas and was based on a 1976 John Farris novel.

It used to be they remade stuff that was a big deal the first time around, like Planet of the Apes or Psycho. Remaking The Fury screams, “We, the motion picture industry, are completely and totally creatively bankrupt.” Can a Weekend at Bernie’s remake be too far behind?
