Barry Allen Returns After 23 Years

May 2, 2008 by brian

Flash Image That was one long run – but in the end, it cheated death. In a move certain to be controversial, DC Comics has revived The Flash, Barry Allen. Allen died during the acclaimed Crisis On Infinite Earths storyline, sacrificing himself to save the multiverse.

The act saw Allen come to be referred to as “DC’s first official saint.” In a genre of writing where death is about as permanent as the common cold, Allen’s 23-year demise seemed destined to stick. DC had teased his return in storylines throughout that period but they were usually either temporary or a trick.

In one storyline, Flash foe Professor Zoom posed as Barry to trick current Flash Wally West into thinking he was no longer necessary. But there is the possibility that this one could be temporary as well. Barry told Wally he would return from the dead three times, during the times the younger hero needed him most. He’s already used two of those “lives,” so there is much speculation this could be a temporary return as well.

Bring back Barry as a forensic scientist and leave Wally the Flash!

  2. Brian Allen says:

I’d just prefer they kept him dead. The Crisis for all intents and purposes now never happened.

If you bring back the have a good writer to go along with him. Do not bring him back and have Scott Lobdell write it

  4. Brian Layman says:

Oh good grief that sooooo was not 23 years ago….

Personally I think someone at DC saw Spiderman III and the black suit and a bell went off… Hey – didn’t we do a competing series at the same time as Secret Wars? What happenned then?

Here’s the thing: Why did DC come up w/multi-verses anywhere?

What’s more plausible to us is the concept of multi-dimensions. Like what Marvel has done.

The idea of multiple earths came about to fit specific characters into story lines that didnt exist in the main continuity of the DC universe, especially when characters were purchased or were from sister companies of DC. But still allowed characters to interact with each other, such as the JLA (earth one) teaming up with the JSA (earth two) or battling The Crime Syndicate (earth three) and i think its basically the same as different dimensions. Things are the same but they can be very different. Barry Allen said the vibrational differences keep them apart.
