New "Old" Shows for SCI FI

by Cynthia on May 5th, 2008

sci_fi_usa_logo Just when I thought SCI FI Channel had given up on great syndicated programing, they come out with this announcement.  They’ve secured the cable rights to Ghost Whisperer which they’ll be airing in a 4 hour prime-time stack in the fall.

Oh, but that’s not the part of the press release that got me excited, oh no.  It was the part about the other shows SCI FI acquired the airing rights too when they aligned with the CBS library; Early Edition, Charmed, Highlander, Mork & Mindy, Star Trek: The Next Generation and  (drum roll) Friday the Thirteen: The Series.

Friday the Thirteen: The Series!  Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for this show to make a come back on TV or DVD?  Forever, that’s how long.  (Yes, I know it aired on Chiller, but I don’t get Chiller.)

This gem of a series has nothing at all to do with the movies of the same name and I think that contributes to it being misunderstood.  It’s really more like Supernatural than anything else on TV right now.  The plot revolves around a pair of cousins who are charged with recovering hundreds of cursed antiques sold from their uncle’s shop.  Each antique has an ability related to the item itself and using it generally has deadly results.  Write about a murder with the cursed quill pen and watch the guy die. A gold compact makes anyone who sees the owner fall madly in love (for a price.) And then there’s the scarecrow that guarantees a good crop in return for three human sacrifices (sound familiar?)

Friday the Thirteen: The Series has great storytelling and the two leads really click.  SCI FI hasn’t set a premiere date yet, but you won’t want to miss it, when this show returns to TV.

I think everything Sci-Fi belongs on the Sci-Fi Network….and that includes Xena, Hercules, The Sentinel, Charm, Star Trek, Sliders, Stargate, Smallville, and Especially Supernatural.
