Battlestar Galactica 4.5 Recap

The Road Less Traveled

Starbuck-Helo Conflict

Humanity is at 39,676. Big shock, the crew of the Demetrius has reached the boiling point as Starbuck can offer them nothing but paintings of the solar system.

Helo wants to be a good XO, but Starbuck’s seeming insanity makes that impossible. After being ordered to jump to the same place for a third time, he’s finally had enough. To complicate things, they find a damaged Raider with Kara’s good friend Leoben aboard.

He wants to help her “fulfill her destiny,” but believes that means she must talk to the Hybrid.  Sam doesn’t trust Leoben as far as he could throw the ship and the two get into a fight. Ain’t that cute, Cylons in love fightin’ over their gal. Leoben hints he might know Sam’s secret, making for another interesting dynamic.

Leoben wants the crew’s help to jump back to the baseship and offers to help the crew find Earth in exchange. Nobody’s buying this, except of course for Kara. A gas leak on Leoben’s ship kills a nondescript crew member and this causes Starbuck to at least temporarily mistrust him.

She of course ends up telling the crew they’re jumping with Leoben, Helo tells her no way and she replaces him as XO with Gaeta. He won’t follow her either and the mutiny is on.

More strange goings on in Gaius Baltar’s love cult. Why do people follow this guy again? He’s sleazy, untrustworthy, oversexed and wait, he’s just like every cult leader ever. Never mind. An angry woman wants to know why her son was killed by the Cylons. Baltar explains that the gods didn’t save him because they don’t exist. The message sounds so good he broadcasts it over the radio.

Chief Tyrol, now sporting a chrome dome, turns the message off but Nicholas starts crying. Tory’s still spinning Cally’s death as a suicide and even suggests Cally may have done it because of her husband’s Cylon-ness. That’s cold-blooded.

Baltar realizes that Tyrol’s vulnerable and begins preaching to him. But he makes the mistake of mentioning Cally and earns a chokehold for his troubles. He keeps trying though. Tyrol listening to Baltar? He is taking it hard.
