Raimi May Still Helm Spider-Man 4

by brian on June 7th, 2008

Sam Raimi-nc At a June 5 press event director Sam Raimi said he’s waiting to see a script before deciding whether to direct the fourth Spidey film. Writer James Vanderbilt, who penned The Rundown, is working on it. Raimi said he expects it to be done in a few months.

As far as potential recasts for Peter Parker or Mary Jane Watson, Raimi said he “couldn’t imagine” doing it. With Tobey Maguire rumored to be moving on, it’s not unlike before he was cast. Every young actor in Hollywood seems to pop up in a daily rumor as the next web head.

Recasts in midstream are usually the quickest way to ruin a franchise (see Batman) so I hope they can work something out.

Question. Who wrote spidey 3? Since the guy from “the rundown” is doing the script will Dewayne Johnson be in with Ernie Reyes,jr.

Hey, I’d have to watch it with Ernie Reyes, Jr. The Rock as The Prowler, maybe?

Man, evidently I’m not a “true believer” spidey reader because I don’t know Ernie Reyes, Jr OR “The Prowler”.

Although, I am a Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson fan & “The Rundown” was awesome. For any action fan, that opening club fight scene should have had you hooked. It did me & The Rock did not disappoint thru the rest of it. Now “DOOM”, that’s another story. That wasn’t his fault. It goes back 2 what Brian had said many times, some games just should not be movies–The story just doesn’t sell on the screen.

Regarding Raimi, his direction has been right-on in my opinion w/Spidey. It was just the writing of Spidey 3 that sank it for me. There was too many villians in it. Seriously, writers need to stick w/only 2 villians in solo hero flick max. Maybe J_Vanderbilt can save the franchise thru script, the way Christopher Nolan did “Batman” thru directing. We can only hope.

I liked Doom, kick me. Sam and Ivan Raimi as well as Alvin Sargent shared credit on writing Spidey 3. No word on who wrote the “Dancing with the Superheroes” scene.

Ryan, Ernie Reyes Jr. was the “just a little guy” that beat The Rock up in that classic fight scene. The Prowler was pretty C-list so you don’t really have to know him. I’m guessing he doesn’t ever show up although they are short on villains.

That’s one of the reasons they brought Norman Osborn back in the comics. Most of Spidey’s villains, including Harry as Goblin Jr. in my opinion are kind of blah. Raimi’s development of Doc Ock was better than anything that had ever appeared in the books, I think.

Venom was one of the great ones but Marvel is running him into the ground. He didn’t get nearly enough screen time in SM 3 and in the book, everybody’s had the symbiote. I think I was Venom for a short time in 2005.
