Supernatural Comics Rising

June 11, 2008 by Cynthia

Rising_Son_2 I talked with Peter Johnson this week about what’s coming up in the Supernatural: Rising Son comics and here’s what he had to say.

“We’re trying to stretch out and do something more active, fun, even pulpy (in a good way, hopefully) at times. We’re really happy with issue 4, which is like a crazy road-movie detour reminiscent of DEATH PROOF meets THE HITCHER. That kind of story. We’re plowing into #5 now, which we’re designing to be our kind of CAPE FEAR issue. And issue 3 is a real “what the hell is going on with Sam?!?” issue. The dysfunctional family story comes to a head in that issue.”

Johnson is the author of the Supernatural comics and executive producer of the series. This second arc of comics follows the Winchester boys through their elementary school years and has an added level of emotion that wasn’t as prevalent in the first series, “Origins.”

The next issue (#3) hits stands on June 23 and focuses on Dean’s first hunt. I expect it to be as heart wrenching as it is gut wrenching.

On a side note, Johnson also let me know that both Supernatural and Chuck would have a presence at San Diego’s Comic Con this year.  The exact agenda and guest lists are still being worked out.  Stay tuned.

I LOVE Supernatural and the comics are a lot of fun! I really hope future issues elaborate on some more of the one-note characters like Caleb!
