Fringe: Find the Pattern
It starts off like a typical radio ad for a car dealership, Abrams Autos, to be exact and then something goes wrong. Interference and then a voice — “find the pattern” — and then it’s back to the ad.
It’s not aliens or demons or even a careless tech in the audio booth. It’s all part of the marketing campaign for Fox’s new series “Fringe.”
Since the series is all about a weird conspiracy, the marketing campaign had to be weird as well. It began with Fox depositing cows in Manhattan and now it’s plastering cryptic posters all over major cities in the US.
But the real interest comes from these spots that don’t mention the show specifically. Except for a softly whispered “Fox” at the end of the ads, there’s no indication that these ads are for a TV show at all. In addition to the auto dealership spot there’s also a spot that sounds like a report on a police scanner and another that sounds like a news report.
Listen to them right here:
The bigger question surrounds a YouTube video of a man with six fingers on each hand. There is a hidden link on the Fox Fringe website that takes you to this video which was supposedly uploaded almost a year ago.
According to TVWeek, Fox is planning even more unusual marketing stunts in the coming in the next few weeks.
“We’re planning outbreaks of ‘Fringe’ in all sorts of interesting places.” (Laurel Bernard, Fox TV)
