Whedon’s Sing-a-Long Gets Good Press
“Anytime Joss calls, it’s going to be something cool,” said Nathan Fillion in an article at The Hollywood Reporter. Whedon’s newest buzz-maker, an Internet project known as “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” was screened for an invitation-only crowd last week and it was a hit.
TV Guide said, “If there’s any justice, Dr. Horrible will eventually make a bundle. Far from horrible, it’s terrific.”
The project was conceived during the Writer’s Guild Strike when Whedon was forced to put down his pencil — but only in regard to guild projects. The Internet is fair game. The original intention was to make it a podcast but it grew into something much larger.
More a labor of love than a money-maker (which it will turn out to be in the end, I’m sure.) Whedon, Fillion, Neil Patrick Harris and the rest of the cast and crew dove in with the spirit of amateurs embarking on their first film. It was exciting, and fresh, and new.
The film will be shown in three parts beginning on Tuesday, July 15th and ending on the 20th, but already the buzz is bigger than they could have hoped for. After the internet viewing, the full feature will be shown at Comic Con and then it will be off to DVD.
Whedon couldn’t be more thrilled with the response. Thinking back to how Fox put the kibash on midnight Buffy musical singalongs, he had this to say about Dr. Horrible.
“If people think that this is wonderful and want to sing along in costumes and go at midnight, who am I to stop them?”
I can already see a run on goggles and lab coats at the local medical supply house.

I personally can’t wait for this to air. Everything Joss Whedon touches is great. Joss Whedon has already created three classic shows (Buffy, Angel, and Firefly). After learning about the concept behind Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog I think Whedon is going to have another hit. Whedon has already showed that he knows how to do a musical because one of the best Buffy episode was the musical Once Again With Feeling.
