Sci Fi Channel Original Films - Sigh…

by brian on July 23rd, 2008

sci_fi_usa_logo.thumbnail I’ve gone on record as saying I would love it if Sci Fi shut down its B-movie factory and used that money to salvage popular genre shows like Moonlight or Jericho. As my colleague Cynthia previously reported, the network has announced 36 movies for its Saturday and Sunday slots, including Lake Placid 3.

Oh, they had to do it because their highest rated movie last year was Lake Placid 2. I am not even kidding. What kind of a nightmare world do we live in where Lake Freakin’ Placid has become a trilogy? Seriously, that’s like the straight-to-DVD sequels you see at Blockbuster and just laugh because you didn’t know they existed. Ooh look! From Dusk Til Dawn 12!

Quality over quantity, Sci Fi Channel. How cool would it be if instead of 36 movies we’ll watch if nothing is on HBO at the same time*, the channel did 6-10 really good movies. Say, that much talked about Angel movie? A Dresden Files flick? I’m just spitballin’ here, throwing out some ideas. You know how to reach me, Sci Fi.

*That doesn’t apply to good stuff like Tin Man. And I think we all know the difference between Tin Man and Lake Placid 3.

I agree Brian. The do so many lame ass weekenders, that you need a barf bag and Dramamine just to get through them.

The last good one I saw (sorry, I missed Tin Man, still need to catch that one…) was ‘Ogre’ with John Schneider, and that was March 8th of this year.

Before that was ‘Rest Stop’ with Joey Lawrence On July 23rd of ‘07. So that tells you how often they have a jewel on their wonderful channel (sarcasm knows NO bounds!)

They really do need to work on something with a bit more substance, and I don’t mean blood and mindless boobs called bad actors!

They brought backed ‘Haunted’ for a dismal one day showing, and it was supposed to be a marathon? Kiss my ass, a marathon. Sci-Fi is really losing it’s edge. They don’t even do their usual ‘Friday the 13th: the Series’ marathons anymore. I miss that. Thank God they still show ‘The Twilight Zone’ every New Year’s Eve, That is one thing they have kept up for quite a LONG time!

Oh well, I guess their budget is being used elsewhere. And not very wisely!

Yeah, on the weekends i just avoid sci-fi like the plague. An “Angel” movie, Please!! David Borenaz is to busy with his hit “Bones” to do a lowly cable film

I’m glad I’m not the only one that avoids B-movie weekends. I could care less about that franchise. 36 more? Come on! How about “Firefly”? I would love to see Harry Dresden again, too. Maybe their budget is being used up on Stargate:Atlantis (but that’s a cool show. I watch that one so I don’t object there.)

I can only assume somebody is watching these movies or they wouldn’t keep making them. Somebody, out there?
