Own a Piece of Galactica
July 26, 2008 by Cynthia
With “Battlestar Galactica” drawing to a close, NBC/Universal is preparing to auction off more than 3,000 items from the series. They’re selling the store folks; costumes, props, set pieces, everything from Admiral Adama’s uniform to a life-sized Centurion costume. Also included will be the flight suits worn by “Starbuck” (Katee Sackhoff) and “Apollo” (Jamie Bamber), several life sized Vipers and Raptors and Cylon Raiders(!), as well as pieces of the Combat Information Center (CIC).
Though NBC execs tout the auction as a way of giving back to the fans, I’d say it’s more about collecting back some of the bucks they shelled out to make the expensive series. Not that I’m grumbling, mind you, I’d much rather see items like these go to fans than into the dumpsters the way they used to.
NBC Universal and Propworx will conduct two live auctions in Los Angeles, along with a series of Internet auctions at www.battlestarprops.com, in tandem with the airing of the final episodes.
