Fans Already Trying To ‘Save’ Dollhouse

There aren’t many fans in the entertainment world more passionate than sci-fi lovers. See our Jericho coverage for proof of that. With the ability to access the most up-to-date info on any show with a few keystrokes, the industry now has to reckon with fans that are more knowledgeable than ever before.
We see the evidence of these proactive fans now, as Newsarama reports fans have begun efforts to save a show that has not yet aired. Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse reunites him with Buffy The Vampire Slayer alum Eliza Dushku and anticipation for the show is at a fever pitch. When word broke that the Fox network had ordered a pilot reshoot, there was much gnashing of teeth among Whedon’s and Dushku’s intensely devoted fanbases.
At San Diego Comic Con, an event that has become the mecca for all things fantastical, Whedon confirmed he’s aware of these efforts. The mind behind well loved but prematurely canceled shows like Buffy, Angel and Fireflysaid he appreciates the enthusiasm. He also said the wariness was “well deserved.”
Some fans are expressing another worry: That too much talk about the show’s cancellation could lead to negative publicity that will cause the show’s cancellation. Now there’s a conundrum fit for a TV hero. Readers, what’s your take? Is this a needed preemptive strike to help a show that needs the kind words? Or are diehard fans in danger of running off casual viewers the show needs on board to survive?
