io9 Has A Prescription for Smallville
August 15, 2008 by brian
Well-known pop culture site io9’s Graeme McMillan suggests how Smallville could get back on track in its eighth season. That’s obviously going to be a hard task as the acting of Michael Rosenbaum and the sheer hotness of Kristin Kreuk aren’t around to cloak Krypton-sized plot holes anymore.
I agree with a lot of what McMillan has to say, particularly about the cavalcade of guest stars. There’s a reason the comic book writers didn’t do things like having the entire Justice League show up in Smallville, Kansas or make Green Arrow a recurring character in Superboy’s adventures. The show is supposed to be about young Clark Kent and his journey to becoming a hero.
McMillan’s also right that the Legion of Superheroes makes much more sense as the comic has always shown them as a huge part of the Super-mythos. Unfortunately, Smallville probably will not do any of the things McMillan suggested. It’s a shame, as Smallville has a devoted and dedicated legion (no pun intended) of fans that want to see this show recapture its former glory.

I don’t think that Kristin Kreuk’s character will be missed much honestly. As hot as KK is, Lana is a complete waste of screentime and a complete failure of a character. The writers did not know what to do with her I guess, and I am sure many Smallville fans are not interested in watching more love triangles involving Lana. If they brought back the early season seven Dark Lana though? That would be all kinds of awesome. Imagine KK acting as a bad-ass! She’s really good at it, and Lana is much more interesting with a personality. Michael Rosenbaum is irreplacable though! and I disagree with most of the suggestions on that article though. Chloe is the reporter, Lois is just a go-lucky character. She’s Lana 2.0 IMO.
Much as I hate to say it, I don’t know how Smallville makes it past this year. Most shows lose steam at about the six-seven year mark anyway. No Lex is going to be hard to get past.
