Alone in The Dark Reinvents Itself on 360
One of the most storied survival horror franchises is back for PC and new generations consoles and fans of the genre may want to give it a try. Gameplay in Alone in the Dark is broken up into TV like episodes, running around 30 minutes like a TV show might.
A neat, realistic twist in this one is the ability to hold only as many items as you can carry in your pockets. That definitely makes you think twice about what you really need to carry to fight off monstrous hordes.
The action takes place in a dark, menacing video game version of Central Park. There are a number of ways to interact with the environment and take down creepy creatures. You can do everything from incinerating them with Molotov cocktails to braining them with steel pipes and there’s a gritty, visceral fun to the violence.
There are some control issues that stop this one from achieving the heights set by a Resident Evil or even some of the previous AITD efforts. Your character’s movement is a bit stiff and zombie like and hit detection is questionable. But survival horror fans could definitely do worse than this for their creepy creature fix. Don’t go turning the lights off while you play it either. Well you can, but don’t come crying to us if you can’t sleep later.
