Sarah Connor Returns With a Bang
Sarah Connor returned to TV last night with bang. . . and a boom, and a crack and a crunch. All very appropriate since they use actual oil drums and hubcaps to make the cool background music you hear on the show.
I was totally taken by surprise by the turn in Cameron at the start of the episode. I didn’t see that coming. . . well, I didn’t see that coming so soon! Summer was amazing in her ability to be cold, calculating and evil but she was even creepier when she was begging John to spare her life. Yikes, I get shivers. Was she telling the truth then? Or was that just another ploy before she really switched over at a later point?
I’m happy to see Charlie’s still a part of the family. I like Dean Winters and I was unhappy when I thought he was only going to be in the first episode and then gone. I really feel for the guy as he’s one of the few that knows the truth but really can’t do much more than stand by, helpless, while it all falls apart around him.
Brian Austin Green was a little under used in the episode but I can forgive them considering the amount of action involved. Kudos to the stunt team — rolling the car into the drainage ditch was incredible and again, unexpected.
And speaking of unexpected, who saw liquid Terminator woman coming? Be honest. I didn’t. I knew she was up to no good but I never expected that. And morphing into a urinal — priceless.
My favorite moment of the night, though, was the scene with Sarah talking to John through the bathroom door. Being the fan girl that I am, I knew about his change of haircut and I was already bemoaning the loss of those emo locks before the episode began. But when I saw him staring into that mirror, cutting his hair, looking so determined — wow, John Connor is now a force to be reckoned with. It was the perfect way to show the change, the perfect moment to make it happen and Dekker pulled it off without a single word uttered.
I’m really looking forward to the rest of this season. It’s going to be a wild ride.
ABOUT THE SONG: (from FOX)
The song is an original arrangement of a gospel spiritual called Samson and Delilah, composed by the Rev. Gary Davis. The track is performed by Shirley Manson and arranged and produced by Bear McCreary. The song was arranged by Bear McCreary specifically for the premiere episode of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, designed to fit the episode’s opening sequence. Instrumental and vocal tracks were recorded in early August, 2008. The idea to incorporate the song into the episode was originally from Josh Friedman, Executive Producer, although he allowed McCreary and Manson complete creative freedom to adapt the material. The lyrics of the spiritual are relevant to story points within the episode.

I don’t even know what to think about Cameron now. Great acting by Summer though.
