Un-Obituary: Dean Winchester
Death is, at best, a fleeting condition in the world of science fiction and fantasy. Many times the common cold lasts longer than death. With that in mind, SFUniverse is proud to debut a new feature:The Un-Obit. First up is the recently returned Dean Winchester of CW’s hit Supernatural!
Dean Winchester (January 24,1979 - May 2008) ( September 2008- )
Dean was born January 24, 1979 to John and Mary Winchester. Dean and his brother younger Sam are two of the most prominent demon hunters of the 21st century. The brothers are held together by a need to do what they feel is right, but also by a love that often drives them to make sacrifices for each other. When Sam was stabbed to death, Dean made a deal with a Crossroads Demon to bring his brother back to life. As part of that deal, Dean would live for one year before the contract on his soul came due.
After that year the brothers encountered the demon Lilith, who held the contract on Dean’s soul. In that battle Dean was consumed by a hellhound and taken to Hell. This seemed to fulfill a prophecy that Dean would become a demon and Sam would have to kill him.
But four months later, Dean inexplicably wakes up with his physical form intact. He crawls out of his grave with no visible signs of his ordeal other than a bizarre handprint on his arm.
He assumes his brother made some self sacrifice but it turns out Sam is unaware Dean is even alive. The pair naturally assume this is the work of some demon but later learn that Castiel, a being that proclaims himself to be an Angel of God, is responsible. This is troubling to Dean who has long dealt with issues of faith. As Castiel tells him, Dean is uncertain he deserves to be saved.
Whatever the bizarre circumstances of Dean’s resurrection, the Winchester brothers are reunited. As always, they are determined to protect the world from demonic influence and each other from the numerous perils of their profession.

Look…I love this Un-Obit idea. And I’m glad that our boy Dean Winchester is the first! Of all the sci-fi characters that I’ve loved over the years, this is one that I would have REALLY missed. Hell…I love Captain America, but I’m in no hurry to see Steve Rogers come back…but the Dean…well, hell. Gotta have ‘em.
