Heroes Recap 3.2: The Butterfly Effect

September 23, 2008 by brian

Peter-Angela Effect Image Angela Petrelli has had visions of the future (including the Heroes’ deaths) and tells Future Peter he’s messed things up much worse than they were before.

Spoilers follow the jump!

Claire still has her healing power but now she doesn’t feel pain. This creeps her out because the pain always made her feel human. She makes another video and apparently has been letting trains hit her in the hopes she’ll feel something. Future Peter stops her and wants to know what in the world she’s doing.

Sylar kills two company agents but Elle is still trying to convince her father  that she can catch the villain. She leaves the room for a moment and finds Daddy’s been scalped by Sylar. Elle lets Noah Bennet/HRG out and he puts a couple of bullets into Sylar. Since he’s got Claire’s powers, that has no effect and he telekinetics Noah into the wall. He’s about to steal Elle’s powers but she shocks him unconscious.

The problem is that her powers shorted out Level 5’s power grid, unleashing a dozen villains supposedly just as bad as Sylar. We’ll see about that. Angela informs Elle that her father was the only reason she kept a job and now she’s fired.

Things are weird with Hiro and Ando now that Hiro’s seen a future in which his best friend betrays him. Hiro has private detectives scour his office and they find a fingerprint that ID’s the speedstar, Daphne Millbrook. He teleports himself and Ando there and finds that she’s used her speed to become the world’s greatest thief.

Hiro tells Ando what happened in the future and Ando reassures Hiro it will never happen. They set a trap using her most prized possession, a medal from the first race she ever won. Ando is bait in said trap as they allow Daphne to get away with both her half of the formula and the medal. But Hiro placed a tracking device on Daphne so they can follow her to the other half of the formula. Ando gets cut and thinks Hiro let that happen because of the future.

An intrepid reporter played by The Greatest American Hero himself, William Katt, has tracked down Tracy/Niki Saunders. He threatens to go public with the connection and even has video of her and Nathan Petrelli in a compromising position. When he says deadline is in a few minutes, her powers go critical and she freezes him solid. He then shatters into a million pieces.

The aforementioned Nathan Petrelli instantly recognizes her as Niki also. She denies it and Linderman shows up, telling Nathan to take the senator’s seat. He throws Linderman out but later during a chess match agrees to go senatorial. A nurse walks in and asks Nathan who he’s talking to. Linderman reveals that no one else can see him. Very Sixth Sense – ish as at no point did I realize nobody else ever acknowledged Linderman’s presence.

More film referential fun as Mohinder has fly-like abilities and even has his skin doing strange things. He and Maya make love afterwards just like Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis back in The Fly remake.

It seems to finally be dawning on Future Peter that he has really messed things up. Neither Sylar catching Claire or the mass villain breakout at Level 5 happened in his timeline. Oopsie!

And Heroes leaves us with one jaw dropping moment at the end when Angela taunts Sylar, calling him Gabriel. He’s upset and she promises to nurture him like a mother should. He tells her she’s not his mother and she responds that she in fact -  is his mother. Oh no she didn’t!

Oh Yes she did. I notice Linderman was a not there when tracy/nikki damn near ran into him leaving out of Nathan, room. I just glad to see Jaime Hector working again, so that is how Marlo took over Baltimore.
