Heroes’ Ratings Down For Premiere

September 24, 2008 by brian

Mohinder-Maya The Hollywood Reporter tells us the ratings for the Premiere Extravaganza of NBC’s Heroes were – not very heroic. The season premiere episode pulled a 6.1/ 9 share for its first hour but dropped to 5.6/9 during the second hour. That marks an all-time low for the series, the first time in the show’s history it pulled in less than a 6.0.

The show may still be suffering from the after effects of a strike-shortened season that didn’t sit too well with some viewers. In the first season, Heroes was a phenomenon on par with the launch of ABC’s Lost. Characters like Hiro, “The Cheerleader” Claire Bennet and the deliciously evil Sylar became household names. Most critics and fans that actually watched the two-part premiere seemed to like it. What did you think, readers? Did you watch it? Or did NBC break your heart last year? Can Heroes get its mojo back?

i saw it and liked it, well except for future peter. In the words Mr.Foreman “Dumbass”. good to see other villians and i want to know wnat is up with the “Company”. the kids are paying for the parents sins.

  2. Judy says:

I loved the last season of Heroes. Most of the characters were really….well, HEROES. What I didn’t like was that we never really got any answers, just more questions! I was so frustrated at the end of the season that I made the choice not to watch any more. The previews for this season confirmed my decision. We know how bad people can be, show us something heroic in Heroes and give us some solid answers and I might be back

  3. Arieanna says:

The show broke torrent records though – so I think that’s the issue. This show, more than any other, hits the demographic that will download shows.

There were more than 1 million downloads of the 2 episodes in 24 hours. Kind of crazy that traditional ratings can’t incorporate this.

So true, Arieanna. The ratings bigwigs need to get with the times. If people watching TV online were included, I’m convinced the changes would be earthshattering. And shows like Jericho and Moonlight would likely not only still be on the air, but possibly Top 15-20 shows.

I can’t see a majority of the older demographic going online to download Deal or No Deal, Law and Order or the things that often inexplicably beat our fave shows.

  5. Sonja says:

I finally got into the show just over the weekend, had to watch it all online.

The first season was amazing, The second season was a little slow for me, but I am glad it is back and that everyone is switching sides.

I agree with John. Not exactly liking the future Peter.

I LOVE Sylar being related (during the first season I thought he was Claire’s Father, I was close, hehe)

I am so looking forward to the rest of this season. It looks extremely dark!

  6. carebear says:

Completely disgusted by what they’ve done in the premiere. And I had actually defended Volume 2 and waited patiently and fangirled all summer for Volume 3. Now I’m done. Jumped the shark.

  7. Brian Allen says:

Sonja, Season 2 was pretty slow moving in most folks’ opinion. Things look like they’re off to a good start here. And welcome back, carebear! You have to keep watching. We always enjoy your honest commentary.

Great comments so far on the new season, guys. Keep them coming.

  8. Grace says:

it will probably take some weeks before the TV ratings go up, just because a lot of people were disappointed with volume 2. But there’s no doubt that this season moves like a Speedster! I’m glad it’s back.

  9. carebear says:

Thanks Brian. When they bring Parkman home from ‘Feudal’ Africa..I’ll definitely watch again! I’m upset about what they did to my cop.

  10. Brian Allen says:

Yeah, carebear I have no idea where they are going with that one. Peter’s too powerful to be so dumb, or vice versa.

    And hi there, Grace!
