Smallville Recap:Plastique

September 26, 2008 by brian

smallville-ep8.02-plastique-041 Clark wants to work at the Daily Planet so he can be where the action is. No sooner than Lois comments on it being a slow news day, there’s an explosion right outside the office. A bus blew up and all Smallville’s major players this season are involved.

Chloe is on hand to help people escape the wreckage, new LuthorCorp CEO Tess Mercer is on board the bus and gets saved by Clark. How nobody saw him tear through the bus like tissue paper is beyond me. When’s that costume coming? Only in comic book land is skintight spandex plastered with garish colors a disguise. Responding to the danger is Crashdown, I mean paramedic Davis Bloome who will become Doomsday.

Also on board is Bette, a homeless girl on the run who is definitely avoiding somebody. Chloe and Davis try to talk her into going to a shelter for girls and she’s not interested. Tess calls Clark into her office under the guise of thanking him for saving her life. She wants to pick his brain about Lex. Clark of course lies and says he doesn’t know anything. Tess decides she’s going to follow him from now on.

Lois strikes out trying to get info at the crime scene but Clark doesn’t. He decides to track down Bette, who steers him toward a “meteor freak” she knows. But Bette blows the poor kid to smithereens and makes it look like spontaneous combustion.

Meanwhile, Davis talks to Chloe and he’s laying on the smoothness until she tells him about her engagement to Jimmy. He’s actually the first person she’s told. Lois breaks into some files at the hospital and gets the dead kid’s autopsy report. While Clark stalls for her, Davis runs into Clark. Davis mistakenly congratulates Clark. Davis thought Clark and Chloe looked like a couple and assumed they were. Sorry Davis, only in Smallville fan fiction. The autopsy doesn’t show any trace of meteor powers and that the explosion came from someplace/someone else. Clark realizes that Bette was present for both explosions and that Chloe’s in danger.

And boy is she ever. Bette tries to run, Chloe tries to talk her out of it. Bette loses her temper and blows up a knicknack, tipping Chloe to who the real meteor freak was. Once Chloe realizes what happened, Bette explains she came from the prison that Chloe was trapped in last week. Bette will do anything to keep from going back, including killing Chloe.  Clark saves the day just in the nick of time. He and Chloe have a heart-to-heart about her engagement and it’s a little awkward. She tells Clark that after the marriage their friendship will change. She’s not sure she’s ready and wants to know if he is.

Bette gets an offer she can’t refuse from Tess, who tells her she shut down the facility. If by shut down you mean “trashed by the Justice League,” then yeah she did. Great sci-fi reference when Bette refers to the prison as “The Thunderdome.”

And finally we end the ep with a glimpse of what you all really came for:Doomsday. Davis looks like Bruce Banner after a bad night as he shakes in an alley during his transformation. I’m not sure if he was changing to or changing back from being Doomsday, but we’ll find out. Some scary head ridges there so his transformed state may look like the comic book character.

  3. Biggysmith says:

I wonder if they are going to have him remember what he is doing or just have him waking up with no memories.

It does kinda look like they are going the Hulk like storyline here.

At least he has strechy pants…

  4. Neo says:

Get rid of Lois, she can’t act. This series should go out gracefully, instead they are dragging out an ending. What a crappy show? Where is the rest of the cast? This show isn’t worth my time anymore. What a terrible way for the producers to treat the viewers after so many years, give the audience a crappy show instead of a great ending to a once upon a time quality series

  5. John says:

it has been crappy for a long time not just this season.
