Sarah Connor Could Be On The Ropes

September 30, 2008 by brian

Stop us if you have heard this refrain before, but the TV vultures are circling over Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles.  From our own Prison Break Buff comes word that FOX execs are at least partially blaming the Terminator lead-out for a dip in Prison Break ratings.

They’re saying FOX may not even use some existing episodes as they begin retooling the schedule in an effort to save Prison Break, which has long been a lynchpin of their lineup. Readers, what have you thought of Sarah Connor during her short run on FOX? Does the network have the right idea or are they way off base?

In a development that may or may not be related, a  press event with Summer Glau scheduled for today didn’t take place. FOX contacts blamed a location problem and an inability to reach Glau by cellphone.

I’m going to be really upset if FOX cancels Sarah Connor Chronicles. It has a strong plot and cast which hasn’t been given time to develop in its first full season.

  2. Chris says:

You know, if I were Summer and Fox kept handeling the shows I’ve been a cast of (remember, she was on Firefly, which Fox prematurely cancelled), I’d tell Fox to stick it.

I’m a huge fan of this show, but there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s getting the axe. The fact that Fox is blaming TSCC for Prison Break’s dip in ratings is STUPID, down right stupid, and it tells me that they’re in denial. Umm, incase they hadn’t noticed, TSCC has pulled in more viewers and PB has had a steady decline in ratings with each season they air.

I hate Fox. They can go “F” themselves.

  3. brian says:

Yeah, between the writer’s strike and the Prison Break problem that can’t very well be blamed on this show – what can you say?

  4. Brett Muller says:

i will be very ticked off if FOX cans this show. Prison Break is the show that needs to be canned, NOT Sarah Connor.
The most recent episode 4 of season 2 was brilliant. Opened so many doors for the development of characters and plot. Fox would be foolish to stop TSCC

  5. Joerg says:

It’s quite obvious that some if not all of FOX top managers have deeply connection with Prison Break executive producers and so they sacrifice other better productions in order to pump up and hype what they want to force on viewers.
Add to this the fact that Nielsen ratings are so outdated, based on a silly sample of the population and that they surely don’t take the whole world into account…
FOX top managers wanted TSCC to get cancelled for sure. They put in on Monday against football events and other strong shows like Heroes and reality shows as well… they calculated that the pathetic and flawed Nielsen ratings would have reflected a huge drop for TSCC and that’s all their plan.
They want to kill the franchise and probably even hurt the upcoming Terminator4 movie. What is for sure is that if Warner Bros top managers don’t keep producing the show and air it on their own CW network since FOX is quitting the deal then the whole franchise will be seriously affected and Terminator4 will fail.
Having TSCC on CW network during 2009 would ensure a very good promotion for the renewed Terminator movies franchise which is expected to be a trilogy if the 4th movie doesn’t flop.

  6. Maria says:

SCC is one of the best written shows on the air today. It’s intelligent, suspenseful, dramatic, with just the right touch of comedy. And the continuity is the best bar none. I’ve never watched Prison Break. I have no desire…even before SCC was on.

I will be most disappointed if Fox kills this series.

  7. Frank says:

Save Prison Break huh? Hahahaha! Where was FOX last season when Prison Break was dragging down Terminator? This is a joke of an excuse. If this is the reason FOX uses to pull the plug they’re going to be in for a big surprise when it comes to continued fan support of their other shows. Fringe? Forget it. Dollhouse? Sorry Joss, should have stayed away. 24? Why do we care anymore?

If FOX cannot take the time to try to save one of the better critiqued shows they have by moving it to a better day instead of blaming it for their own Monday night failings, then I’ve lost faith in the network. Monday night is terrible for sci-fi fans and geeks, every show they love is on, as is football. There’s no way people can watch them all. And that’s on the networks, not the shows.

Shame on you, FOX, if this is your reason for canceling the show.

  8. John A says:

This would be pure suckage. I actually look forward to Monday nights because of this show. For the most part I don’t usually watch TV because it’s mostly crap. TSCC is different. I kind of hope that Fox shit-cans this series so then WB can move it to a network that will care about the show’s audience. If that happens, hopefully the cast and production crew will be appreciated. Unfortunately, it now seems unlikely that this show will last past the MLB playoffs. It’s too bad, I love the show…

  9. Jody says:

I think it absurd that FOX could blame TSCC for “Prison Break’s” numbers. PB has been on several seasons and should have a loyal following giving it a solid base regardless of TSCC. If you want to raise the numbers FOX, at least give both shows a chance by giving them different days. Even “The Simpsons” are pulling similar numbers and are they considering pulling that off the air too? I doubt it.

  10. carebear says:

Oh no. I really love TSCC. Granted, ‘Allison from Palmdale’ was a weak episode, but I have loved all the others and I hope Fox doesn’t kill it too soon like they did with Firefly, Roar, and Kindred: The Embraced. I’m afraid that’s what’s going to happen though. I’ll be very upset.

  11. Arieanna says:

Sucks about the conference call. I thought Chandra had some good thoughts on this piece of news though – that blaming Prison Break was simply silly:

  12. Jon Paul says:

Good lord Fox! what the heck are you thinking! Seriously… sometimes you are the dumbest network out there… why the heck would you cancel this show?? It’s fantastic and one of the only reasons I even tune into your network… This whole prison break excuse would be completely ridiculous… don’t make me lose even more respect for you…

  13. jcsorrels says:

This is terrible news. I love the show and think it would be a shame to cancel it prematurely. I understand that TV is a business, but at least give the producers, writers and especially the fans the opportunity to she the show resolve itself.

  14. Rafe says:

    Are they serious?

TSCC is not pulling PB down, that show does a pretty good job of ruining itself!
Seriously that would be a crappy move if FOX cancelled Terminator, it really is one of the coolest shows out there.
Have a little faith will ya FOX? Give the show a better time slot before killing it!

  15. Chris says:

This is terrible but not surprising Fox usually cancel’s good shows before they have a chance to become anything. Fox should cancel the reality TV shows which have no meaning and are not enjoyable. It is a rarity these days for good Television that lets people uses their imagination. I hope that Fox will keep the Terminator on the program it would be a shame to cancel it.

  16. sean says:

fox sucks. if they cancel terminator, i will never watch any of their shows again. prison break is dying because it’s getting long in the tooth. i mean, just how many times can the same two guys break out of a prison??? if they gave terminator half the promotion it deserves, the ratings would definately go up. hey!! eggheads at fox, if you only casually promote a show, OF COURSE it will fail! i watch family guy, the simpsons, american dad, and fringe pretty regularily, and do you know how many terminator commercials i’ve seen??

    not many.

i hate facing the reality that terminator might not get another season. the shits running fox are going to cancel it and leave the story hanging, and it’s such a GOOD story. i will watch every episode of t:tscc whether it’s for 2 seasons or 20.

  17. mica says:

oh god! fox is still…being fox. do those idiots who run the company even watch the shows? cause if they did they would know what a mistake cancelling the sarah connor chronicles would be! i love firefly, futurama, wonderfalls, and especially TERMINATOR!! to blame pb’s ratings on terminator is just insane. weren’t terminator’s numbers HIGHER than pb’s. just face it, fox guys: prison break isn’t as good a show as you think it is! give terminator a decent timeslot! give terminator real promotion! give terminator a fucking chance! do you know how many people you alienate by cancelling beloved shows??????????

i feel so sorry for summer glau… i hope she remains within the sci-fi genre; she does such a good job. but she should definitely go to a studio run by intelligent people who appreciate talent…

  18. Raul says:

I hope TSCC doesn´t finish, because is one of the best series I´ve seen. I don´t understand pretty much what is the problem with the serie in the U.S., but the show has a lot of fans in the rest of the world. If FOX is so interested in fast money, remember that other countrys are still watching the first season, so you can get a lot of money selling the serie to other places. Here, in South América there´re a lot of fans waiting the second season, of course we can download it, but still we´ll watch it if Warner shows the second season on this side of the world.

And FOX, don´t forget you probably have the best actress that has done a terminator role (sorry Arnold), don´t waste that huge talent, again.

  19. frederick says:

if you want to help the show

write to fox supporting the show

    TTVint3@foxinc.com

    askfox@fox.com

    FOXMOVIES@FOX.COM

and you can write to the president of WB (who is behind the show)

    scott.rowe@warnerbros.com

    save the show
