IGN Hates The Graysons Already
The announcement that CW is working on a Smallville-style prequel show featuring Batman cohort Robin drew a collective raised eyebrow from fandom.
Well known pop culture site IGN has an excellent piece outlining the numerous reasons The Graysons show is a bad, bad idea. Take all the continuity problems that Smallville creates in the Superman timeline and multiply them by infinity.
As Jesse Schedeen notes in the IGN article, assuming the show runs 5-7 years (probably not something we have to worry about) how old would that make Dick Grayson when he meets Batman? The options are either starting the show when Dick, excuse me, DJ is 10-12 years old or a 20-year-old Robin like in Batman and Robin.
Pardon me, I just had a horrible flashback about Chris O’ Donnell’s “superhero doing laundry” scene. Don’t even get me started on Ahh-nold’s scene chewing as Mr. Freeze. He was a brilliant scientist and Olympic decathlete! Really, Warner Bros? Really?
I don’t know why Warner Bros. is so afraid to put a “Young Bruce Wayne” show on the air. That has a great chance to be watchable. Did anyone, even the most devout Bat reader, feel a need to know more about Robin’s life as an acrobat? I know I didn’t.
