Legend of the Seeker Premieres
Here’s something you don’t see everyday (well, not anymore), a live-action fantasy syndicated TV series in the tradition of Xena and Hercules. Based on the work of Terry Goodkind, “Legend of the Seeker” follows the extraordinary travels of woodsman Richard Cypher (Craig Horner), who discovers his own magical powers. With the help of a mysterious woman named Kahlan (Bridget Regan) and a wise old wizard named Zedd (Bruce Spence), Richard must stop a ruthless tyrant from unleashing an ancient evil and enslaving the world.
“Adapting Terry Goodkind’s brilliant work for television is a thrilling opportunity,” said executive producer Sam Raimi. “The amazing characters and heartfelt story combined with the captivating backdrop of New Zealand will have viewers on the edge of their seats.” Rob Tapert, executive producer, added: “Everyone on the production team is committed to making a mini-feature film each and every week. The combination of a talented cast, incredible special effects and stunning locations has given us all the tools we need to create a truly memorable television series.”
Shot with the exotic and rugged New Zealand landscape as its backdrop, the one-hour scripted series from will kick off with a thrilling two-hour premiere event the weekend of NOVEMBER 1ST, 2008.

Oooh, thanks for the update. I’ve been waiting to see how this turned out. His first book was quite good, and I think, done well, it’ll make a better TV series than book series.

This series is actually proving to be very interesting. There are some major points ‘not’ made correctly in line with the books, however, I believe this series shows real promise. Kahlan is represented VERY well by the young actress, but Richard Cypher (or those of us who read the whole series know him by his other ‘name’) needs to step it up and not look like he is trying so hard at acting. The Zedd in this series represents Zedd VERY well by his constant hunger for food (literally), but needs to use more ‘truth’ in his speech. He was not called the Seeker solely until about midway through the seeker which it was short for the “Seeker of Truth.” He is the truth seeker which is why Richard needs to ask alot more logical and reasoned out questions. Zedd’s implication towards Richard as the Seeker of Truth is only as forward as Richard’s questions about everything in the series. The biggest key part they missed in this series however is the simple fact of Richard ‘Memorizing’ the Book of Counted Shadows. That simple ‘truth’ branches into the latter books MAKING the plot of the whole series.

I am happy to be chosen to play as an extra actor in episode 5 of this 22 part series. The location was beautiful and we all had so much fun doing it. I can’t wait to watch it on line.

Finally had a chance to see it last night. I’m… conflicted. I can see the potential, but oh god, the cheese. The cheese!

I was a bit disappointed that I never even heard what station this was going to be on. I missed the entire first two episodes. I worry about it being on Saturday night and being on NBC. I think they have already deviated from the book too much. The whole memorizing of the book being left out could be interesting. One thing that I really didn’t like is the fact that Richard doesn’t even know Zed in the tv shoe. In the books Zed is his best friend and they have a chemistry that comes along with being best friends. They seemed to zip through the first third of the first book in these two episodes. They are also lacking a lot of humorous moments that are in the book. One of my favorite parts in the first book is when Kahlan asks Richard to help her find the Wizard. Richard figures it out and he is the one that introduces Zed to Kahlan. The actors have done an okay job. I hope that the actor playing Richard can grow into the role more quickly. As for him overacting, that to me is as much fault of the director as it is the actor. The director has to tell him that he is overacting or to just do it better. All in all it looked like a good show with some real potential. Let’s hope that this syndication helps the show be successful and more importantly let’s hope that they are letting Terry Goodkind guide this series. I thought that he was suppose to write the episodes, but he has been given no writing credits with the show.
