Smallville 8.07 "Identity" Recap
Air Date: Oct. 30, 2008
Check out our preview here.
Jimmy is trying to convince Lois that the “mystery hero” exists and she’s not buying it. The only costumed crimefighter she knows of is Green Arrow and he’s hung up his tights for the time being. Just then Lois gets mugged and while she dominates the mugger with her kung fu skills, she gets thrown into the path of an oncoming car. Clark does his superspeed rescue thing. But Jimmy had taken his camera out to photo the mugger’s face and captures the save. He’s ecstatic.
Jimmy wants Clark to write the story, while Clark wants the whole thing to go away. Too late, Jimmy already told Tess. Jimmy asks Clark not to tell anyone, which is not going to be a problem. New city reporter Sebastian Kane introduces himself. But there’s more to him than what we see on the surface as he can read people’s minds by touching them. Tess wants Lois’ memories stolen to see if Lois has the mysterious crystal. She promises him “a fresh start” if he can find the crystal. Anybody buying that?

Clark and Chloe discuss the situation and she thinks it would be a good thing for the world to have a hero that inspires hope. She suggests he adopt an alias like Green Arrow has. Clark ain’t having that and tries to talk Tess out of running the story. Gee, Clark, why don’t you just tattoo “It’s Me” on your forehead? Tess questions why a reporter whose biggest byline so far has been kitten adoption wouldn’t want his name on this story. Oh, and The Daily Planet will be running this on the front page.
Clark stops by Lois’ place and cautions her about dating strange men. Sebastian shows up and and she ushers Clark out before Sebastian can read his mind.
Jimmy wants Clark to go through the Smallville High yearbook and see if anybody rings any bells for Clark. After comparing his photo of the red and blue blur to a photo of Clark with a red and blue outfit on, Jimmy figures out it’s Clark. Wow, we still don’t know how long it’s going to take Lois to figure this out. Clark goes to Chloe and tells her, trying to get her to convince Jimmy he’s on the wrong track. Jimmy arrives and realizes Clark “blurred” there, reinforcing the Clark has superpowers theory.
Clark talks to Ollie, who’s busy drinking with some lovely ladies. Clark lays a major guilt trip on Ollie for giving up the Arrow but somehow talks him into helping conceal Clark’s identity.
Yeah, the plan here is for Ollie to pose as Clark, “save” Clark from Chloe attempting to hit him with a car and throw Jimmy off the case. Ollie has a red and blue suit and will “fly” by with a trick arrow. Hey, I didn’t say it was a good plan.
Sebas puts the charms on Lois and when he touches her hand realizes that she knows he was a prisoner at Black Creek. Also, she has a flash drive with more info about the facility. He tells Mercy who is less than sympathetic, as she can’t be connected to Black Creek in any way. Sebas suggests Lois will not make it into work tomorrow and then Mercy tells her driver to move on to Jimmy Olsen.
And yes, the “plan” hits a glitch as Lois calls Clark for help while Sebas is trying to kill her. He ducks on the plan to take the phone call and goes to save her, touching Sebas’ hand in the process. Meanwhile, Jimmy gets into real danger from a mugger and Ollie makes the save. He sticks around long enough to get photographed in the red and blue costume. Jimmy somehow falls for this even though before, the hero has been moving at super speed.
But Lois is on the case now and will not stop until she gets the first exclusive interview with the mystery guy. Clark and Ollie talk. Ollie realizes that the Green Arrow is who he is, so he’s back in the tights. He suggests Clark try the red and blue outfit to which Clark responds, “Not in this lifetime.”
Now our girl Chloe visits Sebas at the hospital and wants to know if he touched Clark’s hand. He tells her did, so now yet another person knows Clark’s secret. She explains that the brain is like a computer and if you download too much information, it crashes. She dumps her Brainiac knowledge into him and he dies. As Borat might say, “WHAAAT?” Psycho Brainiac Chloe – OK.
