The Golden Globes are sometimes a precursor of what will happen at the Oscars. Warner Bros. is watching now them very, very closely. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association today announced Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker earned a nomination for best supporting actor.

It was the only nomination for the year’s biggest film. Other nominees are Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise for Tropic Thunder, Ralph Fiennes for The Duchess and Phillip Seymour Hoffman for Doubt.

Heath Ledger’s father Kim released a statement saying the nomination is “deeply appreciated” and “not lost on those of us who continue to love and miss him.”

Your kidding me right? They gave Tom Cruise an emmy nomination 4 a bit part in a crude & sophomoric that barely made the “R” rating due to its profane vulgarity…Although, it was a funny adult comedy…As for Robert Downey’s nomination, please tell me it’s for best actor in Iron-Man?

I mean golden globe nominations, not emmy…sorry ’bout that…I just looked @ the list from the link you provided…After looking it over, it seems another year has confirmed my theory that these awards assoc are rigged like the politicians in congress & the ceremonies are just a charade for the stars & producers 2 showcase themselves…except for maybe, the People’s Choice Awards…Why are none of this year’s biggest blockbusters nominated?…After all, they release movies 2 make money so @ the very least they can get a return on their expense 2 pay all those involved, maybe even, gain a profit AND for the enjoyment of the audience…So then, these award assoc committees should not consider movies like, IM & TDK, off limits I say.

Having said that, let me just be clear, Heath Ledger deserves that award…His performance as “The Joker” was outstanding…It’s what completed the dynamic in the story & made the film soar worldwide…Needless to say, this year has been the best gift for comic/sci-fi fans, in my opinion.
