Stargate Atlantis: Vegas

December 19, 2008 by Cynthia

This is officially my new favorite photo from Stargate Atlantis.  How hot (for you ladies) or cool (for you guys) does Sheppard look in this pic?

Sheppard, John Sheppard

“Sheppard, John Sheppard”

Stargate Atlantis: “Vegas” Part One and Two

Air Date: Friday, January 2 at 9:00 on SCI FI

And here’s how it goes. . .

Police find a desiccated corpse on a desert road outside Las Vegas, Nevada, the seventh victim of a bizarre serial killer. Detective John Sheppard, called in to assist, is baffled by these murders. Then a clue, traces of radiation found on the bodies, leads him to a strange looking man with super human attributes who easily evades capture.

Some time later, Sheppard is detained and driven to Area 51. There he meets Dr. Rodney McKay who reveals that the suspect is, in fact, an alien – a wraith – who feeds on human energy. What’s more, McKay and his team have traveled to Earth from the Pegasus Galaxy, by way of a stargate, to prevent this wraith from compromising the security of the planet. But so far, Sheppard is the only one who’s been able to get close to him.

Did I mention that I have a DVD of this episode in my hot little hands?  I’ll have a teaser review for you soon of this and the series finale (sob). You wouldn’t want me to give too much away now, would you?

I will however, offer you more photos after the jump.

You have a DVD of it? You HAVE watched it, right? Oh, lucky you!!

  2. Morjana says:

    Shep in jeans!

    Hubba hubba.

Instead of the crappy looking “uniforms” they should dress scifi actors in tight fitting blue jeans, with extra small t-shirts.

    Shallow?

    Yes, yes I am.

But I like my eye candy.

Fortunately for us, Joe Flanigan is also a wonderful, powerful, actor.

  3. Michelle says:

I agree on the hotness of that photo, and I think Joe makes a very convincing detective. Casting directors, take note! Can you at least tell us if this alternative Sheppard survives the episode?? The one picture looks dire!

  4. Cynthia says:

Elyse, I did watch and I’m in awe! I’ll try to get my awe into text sometime in the next few days.

I’ll just say this – my husband kept glancing at the TV going, “are you sure you’re watching Stargate Atlantis?”

And Michelle, sorry but you’ll have to wait and see.

  5. PJ says:

Well, there is no accounting for taste so i’m sure some find him hot, but he certainly doesn’t look cool. He looks like a male model waving a plastic gun around *g*

  6. Orac says:

Thought I was watching CSI until the names/credits appeared. Very raw, very different, very good!

  7. Linus says:

Anyone knows some (or all) of the music tracks present in this episode ? (i could recognize “the Beautiful people” by Marylin Manson and “the solitary man” By johnny cash )

  8. david says:

It also appears “Sympathy for th Devil” by Rolling Stones

  9. Reila says:

Yeah i could recognize those three songs too but what is that song when Sheppard chases the wraith? You know after they played poker.

  10. Jason says:

    yeah what was that song.

  11. Sylvia K says:

I saw the ep, it was brilliant. So different (and the guys were all really hot) – I’d have been in heaven if this were the spin off show from the Stargate franchise instead of 90210!
I was mesmerized from start to heart-wrenching finish!

  12. Karen says:

Can anyone tell me who played the wraith on the Vegas episode? He looked very familiar.

    Thanks!

  13. There was a song that played before the wraith chase scene, it was when they were playing cards maybe? Anyone know what it was? I want to use it for some stuff

  14. Paco says:

I am a guy and I find him hot

  15. Gruf says:

I felt this episode was just another ho hum melo drama that is Atlantis. Sure it had the ooh ah slow mo’s and the nifty camera angle, but it just didn’t have any pop. Mind you SGAhasnt had much pop for quite a while.. Bring on dollhouse!

  16. bart says:

the wraith in this episode that Sheppard is following is the same actor as the one who played khalek in the prototype in SG1 the other wraith in prison is todd from previous SGA episode

  17. Goldarn says:

Joe Flanigan did play a detective in one episode of “Birds of Prey.”

  18. Weiss says:

Hey! HEY! the music when he chases the gambler,,, anyone know, this question will go on?

  19. Dave the wraith says:

The gambling music is Pokerface by Tempest
and the chase music is Rattled Bones by Something Dark and Sinister

  20. Linus says:

    Dave The Wraith,
do you have an idea where i could find the track “Rattled Bones” by Something Dark and Sinister

  21. Ro says:

Hey, anyone know what’s the music in the scene where the guy suffering from radiation poisoning is making that phone call?

  22. Loki says:

Is that really the song played during the chase?

“Something Dark and Sinister – Rattled Bones”??? I have been searching the net for this song!!!

    see my youtube vid http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XPtyiJrTK9Q

  23. Red says:

What sort of sunglasses is Sheppard sporting in this episode?

  24. Ro says:

I don’t think the songs are by Tempest and Something Dark and Sinister, as Dave the wraith said. I cannot imagine they’d use a song so unknown that google or last.fm (or anything for that matter) cannot find…especially since they used MM and Johny Cash and Rolling Stones, all big immortal names…Damn I wanna know!! ^_^

  25. Grover says:

Just before the wraith jumps, I can make out these lyrics:

Climb high, gonna take it away
I can take it, I can take it awayyyy

  26. Ro says:

Hmm…google is not finding anything on those lyrics…

  27. Weiss says:

Ok, after waiting to see if it would be found here, (the chase music), it going to be found something like this. It is created similarily to how the Supremacy music was done by John Powell (though NOT him). You may notice how it simply repeats itself and never really develops past midway,,, I suppose it was strange how (as cool as Powell’s music was he was not mainstream or, well not mainstream) his music took a while to surface and never progressed pass production. The credits for EP 19 somewhere eventually, or the producer may reveal it. So it is not a “group” that will be found trying to promote itself. Regret currently providing no answer.

  28. CC says:

I’m not sure of this, but the chase song really sounded like a song by Tea Party (a fantastic Canadian group) called “Writing’s On The Wall”. You can find the video on youtube, so someone please go listen and tell me if this is it!

  29. Loki says:

Hmmm I still cant find it, ive had a look at everyones suggestions n investigated them, but im still not hearing the right metalicy music when he starts tlkin… And its the guitar riffs, they just dont match, tho CC that was the closest result ive seen yet.

Id hate it if it wasnt a group, n was specially composed. But I believe that its prob a under-rated band, n thats where its from… Or a really famous metal band, which we are not aware of lol!

  30. Sonch Wideman says:

the song people are wondering about in the Vegas episode is Pleased to meet you – by the Rolling Stones………

  31. Sonch Wideman says:

as for the one in the actual chase, it sounds like Ozzie Ozbourne if i remember correctly. the name is not known, but i am sure i hear it a party rescently

  32. Loki says:

Ok soooo many things wrong with the last two comments.

Firstly, there is no song by THE Rolling Stones called “Please To Meet You”. The song is “Sympathy For The Devil” by “The Rolling Stones”.
And did you even read the thread? We are on about the casino chase song, we know the other 3 listed songs!

And no, soz mate, not Ozzie, not right type of music. Nor right vocals.

Anyone still hunting for this song, please see the youtube thread of what we currently have found.
    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XPtyiJrTK9Q

  33. Ziel says:

    I want to know what song this’ too! >.< It’s impossible to find anything… acctually the song that sounded most like it was “The Kraken” from PoT movies… and that’s not it-.-;;
Let me know if you found out what song it is

  34. Linus says:

Ro said : “Hey, anyone know what’s the music in the scene where the guy suffering from radiation poisoning is making that phone call?”
i would be interesting to know that sound too, but there are no lirycs so unless someone knows that song, we’re screwed

  35. Belial says:

Ya know, I’ve been lookin myself… its sounds kinda Ministry-ish… at least vocalwise… but has much more emphasis on the bass…

One thing is damned sure, its not TKK (as someone suggested on YouTube) it is def not in their style (demonic disco sleaze-groove insanity).

I’ve been out of the rivet-scene too long… prob some new band tryin to sound like Ministry *L*.

  36. Sarah says:

I think the music in the hotel room with the radiation guy is Wake Up by Rage Against The Machine but man the chase music is driving me crazy I need to know!

  37. Michelle says:

Honestly, the fact that no other songs were credited is pretty strong evidence that usual Stargate composer Joel Goldsmith wrote those rock snippets. He’s certainly capable of it!

  38. Michelle says:

Check out Joe Mallozzi’s blog today for lots of cool facts about the episode. And, Joel G. did write all the music except for the 3 songs!

    JM’s Blog

  39. Sylvia K says:

Rob Cooper’s comments on Joe Mallozzi’s Blog:
    http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2009/01/18/january-18-2009-series-creatorshowrunnerexecutive-producerwriterdirectorduck-smoker-robert-c-cooper-answers-your-questions/

“I chose the songs asking many people their opinions along the way. Yes, we paid for them. Another significant budget overage. I have to credit Charlie Cohen Executive VP of MGM for wanting to make the end of season five as special as it could be. Joel Goldsmith was very excited about stepping outside the box for an episode. His music is brilliant as usual. He wrote everything except the three songs we bought. ”
    and
“I thought everyone just naturally assumed the wraith would listen to Marilyn Manson. I also would have loved to get a White Zombie song but I ran out of money. Many of you have wondered what the song is for the chase sequence. It’s Joel’s music. Pretty awesome.”

  40. Loki says:

Thankyou for that Sylvia, we can lay the question to rest now :)

Just have to wait till he publish’s the song so we can all download it!!
    OR hell, buy it!

  41. How to poker says:

Nice info! Very cool post.I have looked over your blog a few times and I love it.

  42. WraithInMe says:

You guys are awesome! Thanks, Michelle and Sylvia.
They really need to come out with some kind of soundtrack to that. I’ve looked high and low and asked forums and even tried contacting MGM about the music to that… hey, they could have at least pointed me in a direction.. then I found this thread.
Seems some forgot to mention the music when the Wraith came out of the trailer with all guns blazing.
When Cooper said, “It’s Joel’s music. Pretty awesome.” it was the understatement of the year. It F*IN ROCKED!
Well, if anything, I have some cool new bands to check out from this thread.
Gonna have to push for that soundtrack >.< With so many people lovin’ the music to the episode I don’t see why they wouldn’t.

  43. scary2hairy says:

You could just extract the music from the video using some software, specifying the start and end times. I’ve done it already =)

  44. WraithInMe says:

    Thank you, Scary!
Just got the email and the music. This does make it a lot easier than just skimming through the video for them. Though I really don’t mind seeing that Wraith in action ;)
I don’t have a thing for Neil Jackson, (sorry Neil!), but you DID make one fine Wraith…

Again, thanks for taking the time to pull those songs, Scary :)
I’d still like to know if there would be a soundtrack with Joel Goldsmith’s music in it. Maybe “lengthier” versions of it. It was absolutely BRILLIANT work on his part, in my opinion.

  45. Mix-martes86 says:

    Hey there,

maybe a little dated thread, but I just found out what might have been Joel’s inspiration for the chase song:
Rage Against The Machine: Battle of Los Angeles – Track 01, Testify
I didn’t know where else to post it, so feel free to spread the word. ;)

    My mail is elmartes86
    Then add the usual @hotmail.com

There I am if you have any questions whatsoever.

    Cheers

  46. David says:

The music u ppl are looking for, is Marilyn Manson – Beautiful People

  47. Charles_007 (subscribed) says:

  48. Man of cake (subscribed) says:

Hi, does anyone know the song playing in the beginning of the Vegas episode? The one that really sounds like something taken from a cowboy movie?
