Col. Sanders Can’t Say Frak
January 28, 2009 by Cynthia
It seems a contest KFC is running to promote Battlestar Galactica’s final season has become more of a headache than KFC marketing intended.
Topless Robot reports on the tremendous chaos that ensued at the fast food chain when it began a sweepstakes that will award a “Frak Pak” of BSG goodies. But somebody hipped KFC to the knowledge that frak is BSG’s fill-in for another four-letter word. This prompted a change from the “Frak Pak” sweepstakes to the “Can’t Say That Word on Television” Sweepstakes.
Oh, KFC, you tried to be cool and you frakkin’ blew it. If Starbuck were here, she’d punch you in the face and take your drumsticks. I’m betting this was the same marketing genius who thought it would be so much cooler if Kentucky Fried Chicken permanently got shortened to KFC.

my boy says KFC like it is an actually word so he calls it Kiffs. that is a frakking shame i would love to say “Frak” to a Kfc employee.
Kiffs – that is my new name for KFC. What’s up, Kiffs employee, gimme my frakkin’ Chicken Bowl!
KFC shouldn’t be ridiculed for actually promoting a little-appreciated-by-the-masses show like BSG. It’s because of their support and promotion that the equally under-appreciated (and paved-the-way-for-BSG) series like Farscape got its mini-series when Sci Fi Channel unceremoniously dumped the show AFTER the 4th season finale had been shot. Farscape is the series that brought critical attention to Sci Fi’s original series and made the critics take the network seriously. So slamming KFC for accidentally linking “frak” with their family brand is a weak attempt to appear cutting-edge humorous. Critics as well as fans should be grateful such a large franchise is taking an interest in and promoting these types of shows instead of the next Batman or Shrek movie.
Guess I should say that KFC is “partly” responsible for Farscape’s mini-series. Our wild and tech-savvy fan campaign helped a ton too! lol
KFC (which really should be said – Kiffick) doesn’t give a frell about Farscape and a Frak for BSG. It’s called marketing to create a buzz for geeks like you and me.
Sci Fi has had pretty good luck with a few of their shows and seem to be getting better about some of the concepts (not sure about Sanctuary though).
And don’t compare BSG to FS. Loved FS and was destroyed when they took it away. But love BSG more and will own the entire set on DVD because their is way more love there
Am I the only one who thinks they’re just idiots? After all, you CAN say “frak” on television!
Kentucky Fracked Chicken.
