Jericho The Movie?
January 28, 2009 by Cynthia
“When I think about the fact, a repeat of Jericho on CW actually has more viewers than an episode of Mad Men, you realize the difference between cable and broadcast, you realize the difference between what the press is watching vs. what America is watching.”
That’s Jericho producer Jon Turteltaub talking to IFMagazine about the Jericho reruns that are currently airing on The CW on Sunday nights. Turteltaub was out promoting his new series Harper’s Island when talk turned, as it inevitably does, to the show that wouldn’t die. Like the people of Jericho, the fans have refused to admit defeat even in the face of insurmountable odds. Turteltaub gives the slightest bit of hope in terms of a refueling if the series is a “remarkable success” on The CW.
I wouldn’t keep my schedule open waiting for that to happen, but it does sound like a big screen version of Jericho could become a reality. With Serenity, Sex in the City and the new X-Files movies all using the theater to offer closure to the fans, more and more shows are looking to go the same route. A Veronica Mars feature was recently announced and the Stargate franchise seems destined to head that way now that they’ve moved into the made for DVD movie market.
Turteltaub says that a Jericho movie would be bigger in all aspects, with looks at what’s happening all over America, not just in that one small town. But would the TV cast be invited back?
“Oh yeah!” says Turteltaub and that’s enough to keep the home fires burning.

Jericho the movie? YES!! I hope they can do it and maybe bring my family’s favorite show to TV. Thank you for the lovely article.
Couldn’t be more happy! Sexy Skeet on the big screen again.
Thanks for the update on Jericho story. Glad there are plans to develop a Jericho Movie!
Thank you for the story on Jericho The Movie. I have faith that Jon T will do the job right and bring us a great story to the big screen. Hopefully it will open up the story to a bigger audience and bring about the possibility of further seasons on a network somewhere.
I’m watching The CW every Sunday evening and enjoying every minute of a terrific show!!!
CBS did a crap job slotting and promoting Jericho during its run…there are so many of us fans out here, the press are dead wrong by saying it wasn’t popular. People need to keep in mind that tv isn’t the only format people are viewing it on. The online Jericho sites are huge draws, CBS just recently put every full episode on You Tube. Tons of hits there too. Its still building momentum! A movie would be a hit and then they can start on Season 3!
