Smallville Returns April 23

16323e_durance_e_b_gr_01 It’s another couple of weeks off for the Boy Who Will Be The Man of Steel and The World’s Most Daring Reporter. Smallville returns with a new episode that sounds very Lois-centric.

In Stilletto, Lois will apparently get in touch with her super heroic side as a hero named, well, Stilletto. Yes, that’s right in this show’s continuity Lois Lane gets a superhero identity before Clark Kent does. That’s funny. Longtime Super-Romance fans will remember ABC’s Lois and Clark endowed Teri Hatcher’s Lois Lane with superpowers as Ultrawoman.

While something about Lois getting a super name and costume before Clark sounds oh-so-wrong to my inner fanboy, something about Erica Durance in spandex sounds oh-so-right.

I would expect Lois’ powers to be short-lived and played for full comedic effect, but then I didn’t expect Lana Lang to get superpowers either. Smallville’s brain trust has never been bound by anything that has happened in the comic books. They’ve proven that by having Doomsday face Clark before he becomes Superman, introducing multiple new characters such as Chloe and generally taking this show in its own direction.

Whether you’re a fan or not, Smallville is poised to enter its ninth season. That’s an eternity in sci-fi, so this show has to be characterized as a success. It is arguably the most successful translation of comic book to TV material in history and shows no signs of slowing up.

Erica Durance looks and acts phony. Her fake boobs are too big for the rest of her body. Her nose jobs didn’t correct her big homely face enough to make people forget that she is a lousy actress with fake parts.

I have had it up to HERE with the idiotic wb. WHY THE HECK IS SMALLVILLE BACK IN BLOODY RERUNS AFTER ONLY A COUPLE NEW EPISODES???

  3. john says:

i have to agree with PaulSimon, how are we supposed to believe that Clark rejects the beautiful Lana Lang for the homely Lois Lane. I mean Chole character is better looker than Erica.

  4. Char says:

To the above posters who judge the female characters on their looks. How are we supposed to take you and your posts seriously?

Physical appearances aside, I think the problem is that Clark and Lana, or Clark and Chloe, have more chemistry together onscreen than Clark and Lois.

My opinion, anyway. I think the humorous eps help the chemistry. The best part of the early Lois/Clark relationship in the books and most movie depictions is that Lois loves Supes and is indifferent to Clark.

From there it can go a number of ways: her finding a surprise attraction to Clark, her suspecting Clark of being Superman and being attracted because of that and some other fun directions.

With no tangible Superman ID, Smallville has to blaze new ground. I guess we could argue it has. I don’t remember very many people watching the movies or reading the comic wanting him to end up with someone other than Lois. It was just always accepted that he would end up with Lois.

I must agree to your wisdom kind sir, i was just thinking with my eyes and my other brain. I apologize.

  10. Stuart says:

I think Lois is every guy’s fantasy! I know she (and Kristen Kruek) are mine! I hope Smallville is around for another three or four seasons. They are the epitome of Good vs. Evil. Even my kids love the show and the characters!
