My opinion, anyway. I think the humorous eps help the chemistry. The best part of the early Lois/Clark relationship in the books and most movie depictions is that Lois loves Supes and is indifferent to Clark. From there it can go a number of ways: her finding a surprise attraction to Clark, her suspecting Clark of being Superman and being attracted because of that and some other fun directions. With no tangible Superman ID, Smallville has to blaze new ground. I guess we could argue it has. I don't remember very many people watching the movies or reading the comic wanting him to end up with someone other than Lois. It was just always accepted that he would end up with Lois.
