Stargate Universe Trailer Promo

June 5, 2009 by Cynthia

According to this new trailer for Stargate Universe, this is a darker, sexier Stargate but is that something anyone ever asked for? Usually, I’m on board with dark and sexy, but I’m not ready to give up the lighthearted banter of Atlantis. Listening to Beckett and Sheppard verbally battle was the highlight of my Friday night.

lou_diamond_phillips_celebrityThe trailer also says it’s a story of hope. In my experience, that means that the majority of the story will be devoted to death and destruction. I don’t want hope, I want triumph. I want the good guys to win.

And can we talk about Lou Diamond Philips hanging in the jungle with Spencer and Heidi on the I’m a Celebrity. . Get Me Out of Here? Sorry, but his credibility as an actor is dropping faster than Sacha Baron Cohen in angel wings.

I really wanted to like this new series, but so far I’m not exactly feeling pulled in. Here’s the new trailer from SCI FI Channel. What do you think? Hit or miss?

I’m not exactly feeling the love yet.
I really liked the feel of the old Stargate series and really am not in the mood for a bunch of dark angsty stuff happening to characters I don’t even know. Oh well, maybe the show will be better than the trailers have been so far.

PS – did you mean McKay and Sheppard bickering? :)
I can’t remember the doc and Shep arguing too much!

I’m ready for something new and you can’t remake Atlantis. I think they’re holding off on details until it gets closer to the fall showing and they will keep feeding small trailer bits. I’m going to give it a chance.

I am eagerly awaiting the show. Yes, I’ll miss the lighthearted banter of previous Stargate incarnations, but I also really miss Battlestar Galactica and I am hoping that SGU will replace both to some degree. (I so wanted to be on this show!!!)

I am afraid this new series will seriously suck. They had a great thing going with stories!! We don’t need ralationships and hope, especially gay ones. I want a great sci-fi show like SG1 and Atlantis, not some overhyped left wing, political, gay nonsense.

My heart just sank when I saw the new trailer Friday night. I have loved just about every minute of Stargate, but every trailer I have seen gives me the impression the new Stargate not only is absolutely nothing like Stargate of the past, but doesn’t seem to have the elements that drew me to SG1 and SGA, the humor, the space action and adventure. If there is adventure, they’re not focusing on it. If they want us to be interested in the characters, I’m not there yet.

Yet I’m anxiously awaiting the first episodes, and so hoping to be wrong.

I was disappointed when I saw Phillips on the reality show. I actually blocked the image out of my head because it was just frightening. I might like his character on the new “Stargate”..IF he promises to do no more reality. lol (crying …head in my hands…screaming whyyy). I’ll watch Stargate though.

Nope, don’t feel the love yet.
The thing which I loved about SG1 was the chemistry between the characters, so far I don’t care about anybody in Universe but I hope the first episode will change that.

Has anyone learned anything from the debacle of the Star Trek movie….i.e. watch a trailer or two then climb aboard your high horse and insist that those few seconds of sneak peak are enough to declare, in no uncertain terms, that “this movie will suck”…only to see it get standing ovations at its premier and pick up the most rave reviews for a sci-fi movie in donkeys years? Has anyone learned anything…..at all? :/

For jeebus’ sake, give SGU a chance. And really, they should be forgiven for thinking that the Gate’s audience might have grown up a bit…hence an edgier feel to the new show. Look what happened to Star Trek during the nineties…coming back with a re-hash of the same old stuff is nothing but poison for a Sci-Fi franchise. Yes, I love SG1 with a passion, and to a lesser extent Atlantis, but I for one am more than ready for something a little different set in the same universe.

I ask you…has this creative force let any of us down yet? For god’s sake give them some credit. Also, with two FANTASTIC actors aboard, such as Robert Carlyle and LDP, this show is likely to blow our socks off. Just watch this space. Oh, and don’t worry….I’m not the type to say “told you so”.

One more thing: ‘Dis Appointed’…I see you’re yet another American that is so obsessed with politics that you try and turn every debate into a political one? Or throw in political analogies at every turn? This is getting tired, fast. Your elections are over and your president has been chosen. Whether you like him or not, PLEASE STOP boring the b’jesus out of the rest of the world with the subject. Thank you.

  10. Elliott says:

Englishman: *please* do not lump us all together with that Dis Appointed idiot. If anything, he’s one of the minority who can’t rant anywhere else except anonymously on the Internet. The rest of us would prefer to be optimistic and forward-looking, thanks.

Also, geez, it’s just a trailer. How is it possible to tell if a character is relatable in several seconds of action? The first season of SG-1 wasn’t anything home to write about, but it steadily improved and the characters eventually grew on me. I’m excited to see them again in the context of this new series. If the new cast is handled anything like the ones in SG-1 and Atlantis, then there should be no worries. If the series turns out to be inferior–which there is a chance of–then I’ll be disappointed. But I’m not about to pronounce this series dead in the water because of its *trailer*.

Psht. You people have no idea what’s in store for you. Buahahhahaha.

…and I will leave it at that. :D
