Eureka Returns with Welcome Back Carter

June 23, 2009 by Cynthia

When we last left the town of Eureka, Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson) was on the outs and Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) announced that she was pregnant. Now Eureka is coming back and they’re picking up exactly where they left off so you won’t be left wanting! (SPOILERS)

eureka_castHaving been fired from his job as Sheriff, Carter gets a new job with Homeland Security which means packing up and leaving Eureka. Daughter Zoe is none to happy about the prospect of leaving her school and her friends — actually, no one is happy about the idea of Carter leaving, including Carter. But what’s an ex-Sheriff to do?

Carter’s replacement comes in the form of Sheriff Andy, a high-level, computer driven, humanoid simulation. He’s smart, polite, dedicated and intolerable! But the real question is, can he handle the unique problems that arise in a town like Eureka?

Here’s where I admit that I was never a big fan of this series, preferring my scifi on the darker side. But after seeing the humor well played on Warehouse 13, I decided to give Eureka another shot and I was hooked. Even with my limited knowledge of the characters, I was pulled in by Carter’s storyline and I was rooting for him to find a way to stay. (Of eureka_welcome_back_01course, I knew that he would — he is the star after all, but still. . . ) I loved the Sheriff Andy character and there was just enough real danger in the episode to offset the blatantly funny bits.

I also discovered Ronald the Mandroid Man (Chris Gauthier) from Supernatural working behind the counter at Cafe Diem. He’s reason alone for me to keep watching the show.

Funny, smart, imaginative — I see now what I’ve been missing. Looks like I’ll be setting the DVR to record Eureka every week and perhaps it will help me get over the loss of Stargate Atlantis on Friday nights.

Eureka returns to SCI FI with all new episodes starting Friday, July 10 at 9:00.

Finally! I’ve been waiting for so long :)
Generally I have to agree with you that “darker” s-f is better (more drama and suspense, less pointless slapstick jokes ..) but here, I make an exception.
Eureka is both smart and funny, with great cast and unique storyline.
I’m so excited (as you can see ;) !

Yay, Eureka’s back! Great start to the season, very typical episode. However, I would have like to see more of Jo’s reaction to Sheriff Andy, especially after the Callister thing.
