Torchwood: We Are Coming

July 18, 2009 by Cynthia

As if Comic Con wasn’t enough to take on this week, BBC America is giving us the next big sci fi event of the summer – Torchwood: Children of Earth.

So before we launch into this monumental week, let’s get our ducks in a row. No spoilers here, so feel free to read on.

As you all know, this new Torchwood mini-series has already aired in the UK which means everyone there and everyone who doesn’t mind a downloaded bootleg has already seen it. To those people I once again ask that you refrain from jumping ahead in the conversation as we go through the week. Speculation if you don’t know the answer is fine, but please don’t post spoilers in the comments.

I’m going to post a review each night after the show airs here, but I’m going to cheat a little and do it from the DVD version that I’ve been sent for review. If you want to own Torchwood: Children of Earth in all of its technicolor glory, it comes out on standard and Blu-ray discs on July 28th . The 2-disc set also contains the Torchwood Declassified featurette so there’s even more to love.

Having said that, I don’t know if the DVD version is the same as the US version that airs on TV on BBC America or the UK version. I was given both and would love to compare them but that’s going to have to wait a few weeks. If anyone knows what’s been edited out of the US versions, I’d love to hear about in the comments for THAT NIGHT’S episode.

Last, but by no means least, I have an interview with Gareth David-Lloyd) which I’ll be publishing later this week. Gareth was kind enough to answer the questions you asked, and he also mentioned a fan gift that is very special to him so I hope we can figure out who that fan was that gave it to him!

Then it’ll be Comic Con and then we all pass out from exhaustion.

So that’s the plan. I hope you’ll stick around here at SFUniverse because Torchwood is coming!

  1. Great article! BBC America has really got me caught up in their science fiction series. If Torchwood: Children of Earth is a well-done as the original Torchwood and Primevel, then it’s another winner! Check out my first and recently released novel, Long Journey to Rneadal. This exciting tale is a romantic action adventure in space and is more about the characters than the technology.

  2. Lisa Meyer says:

Believe me, it is not well done. The acting is very good, but the plot is sketchy with huge holes in it, and the writing is manipulative and depressing. Don’t waste your time.
