Have a Witchy Wednesday with Eastwick

September 23, 2009 by Cynthia

Eastwick_CastA small New England town … three very different women whose dreams are about to come true, with the arrival of one devilishly handsome man….

Tonight is the premiere of Eastwick which is based on the John Updike novel which was the basis for the film The Witches of Eastwick. It’s Charmed meets Gilmore Girls as three women begin to realize their true magical powers after they each make a wish and toss a coin into a fountain.

Rebecca Romijn (X-Men) plays Roxie, an independent and outspoken sculptor and single mother, who longs for someone new in town to stir things up with his wealth, sex and appreciation for art. Jamie Ray Newman (Supernatural, Eureka, Stargate Atlantis) is Kat, a mother of five with a dull, out-of-work husband, who simply wishes that things were different, that someone would take care of her for a change. Joanna, played by Lindsay Price, is a buttoned-up journalist as full of ideas as she is faux pas, wants to speak up for the things she desires, starting with a promotion she deserves and the man she has been in love with for ages. As the three women form an unlikely bond, and a mysterious and wealthy stranger, Darryl (Paul Gross), arrives on the scene, their lives take on new and magical dimensions, and an old adage echoes throughout Eastwick and beyond: Be careful what you wish for.

The series also stars Veronica Cartwright from The X-Files and the Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Ashley Benson who was Tracy on the Great Pumpkin episode of Supernatural. As an extra – six degrees of Supernatural – treat, singer Steve Carlson will be performing in an upcoming episode.

If you were a fan of Charmed, I think you’ll like this new quirky comedy with a magical twist. Check it out tonight at 10:00 on ABC then come back here and let me know what you think.

It wasn’t my kind of show, but I saw plenty of elements that would be appealing to other people. The dialogue in the first 10 minutes was great and the acting was pretty good. I though most of the reviews were overly harsh.

I do happen to be a Charmed fan and I thought it was great. But people can get a bit insane when a book or hell in this case a movie and book gets turned into a show. Vaguely recall the movie and just couldn’t get into the book but this I’m really liking. Lindsay is just great. I’d say that Joanna is my favorite character so far.
