Ghost Lab Will Face Angry Spirits but Not This Reporter

October 30, 2009 by Cynthia

19228_0056The burly guys of Ghost Lab, Discovery Channel’s newest reality ghost hunting series, have no problem facing off against an angry spirit, but when it comes to a probing reporter, they go running the other way.

When I first made mention of the show here on SFUniverse, I thought it would be a quick blip and gone, but now, nearly a month later, I’m still getting comments on that post and they’re not all that nice.

Not long after, I was offered an interview with the guys behind Ghost Lab and I said great. I told them that my readers here wanted to know why another ghost hunting show and why on Discovery? A few days later, I’m told nevermind. They aren’t interested in doing a “negative” interview.

Now, usually, I’m a no bad news reporter. I don’t slam people unfairly and I try to be very objective, so I wasn’t going to post about this but obviously, I had second thoughts.

If you believe in your work, you should be willing to defend it. I’m not TMZ. I’m not looking to for scandal or secrets. I just wanted these guys to tell us what makes their show different from the rest. And it’s not like I went gunning for them, they came to me, offering to do the interview in the first place.

So what do you say Ghost Lab guys? Would you like to write a rebuttal? I’d be happy to print it here at SFUniverse.com.

Supernatural’s Latest Spoof is Spot On

October 30, 2009 by Cynthia

While you were watching “The Curious Case of Dean Winchester,” I was watching next week’s episode courtesy of a tricky-little demi-God with a wicked sense of humor. Need I say it?

SPOILERS AHEAD

SUPERNATURALOver the years, Supernatural has done an amazing job with their parody episodes. They recreated the world of the Universal monsters in Monster Movie, complete with black and white photography and fake-looking sets. One year they pulled out the hand-held cameras and took out the crew for a perfect recreation of a ghost hunting reality show.

This season it’s personal, as Supernatural pokes fun at some classic TV shows in an episode called “Changing Channels.”

Syfy Buys Remake of Being Human

October 29, 2009 by Cynthia

This past summer, we here in the US were treated to a run of the BBC series Being Human which follows the “lives” of a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost who are roommates.

Though it sounds like the plot of a bad sitcom, Being Human is actually a startlingly real and emotional TV series that shows the very best and the very worst of our species.

Now, the company that produced the series is preparing a 13 episode American reboot to premiere on Syfy in Summer 2010.

“Being Human is a smart, contemporary, young and imaginative series that reflects Syfy’s new brand positioning. We are very excited to adapt this for an American audience and bring it into Syfy’s family of programming,” said Syfy president Dave Howe.
