Supernatural’s Latest Spoof is Spot On
October 30, 2009 by Cynthia
While you were watching “The Curious Case of Dean Winchester,” I was watching next week’s episode courtesy of a tricky-little demi-God with a wicked sense of humor. Need I say it?
SPOILERS AHEAD
Over the years, Supernatural has done an amazing job with their parody episodes. They recreated the world of the Universal monsters in Monster Movie, complete with black and white photography and fake-looking sets. One year they pulled out the hand-held cameras and took out the crew for a perfect recreation of a ghost hunting reality show.
This season it’s personal, as Supernatural pokes fun at some classic TV shows in …read more
Supernatural: The End Review
October 2, 2009 by Cynthia
Dean Winchester may seem like a gung-ho, guns blasting, kinda guy, but compared to his future self, he’s Mr. Rodgers. There are no beautiful days in this neighbor now that Lucifer has decimated the world with the Croatoan virus — or maybe, (to quote a classic) we did it to ourselves.
Last night’s episode of Supernatural was my favorite so far this season as the regulars got to stretch their acting muscles by playing alternate versions of themselves. Much of the heavy lifting went to poor Jensen Ackles who is becoming a victim of his own talent. After wowing the audience …read more
Stargate Universe Takes a Walk on the Dark Side
September 30, 2009 by Cynthia
The Stargate franchise is like a family with the same parents but whose children are all very different. Stargate SG-1 is the serious, responsible oldest child and Stargate Atlantis is the fun, mischievous youngest child. So that would make Stargate Universe the odd, schizophrenic, middle child who has a tendency to light things on fire.
Yeah, what they’ve been saying all along is true — this is not your father’s Stargate.
I’m sure you’ve already heard the basic premise. A group of civilians, scientists and military personnel are forced through the Stargate in order to survive an alien attack on their …read more
Supernatural: Free to Be Review
September 25, 2009 by Cynthia
After last night’s episode of Supernatural, Free to Be You and Me, Castiel’s faith in the Lord is shaken as is my faith in the series as a whole. I wasn’t thrilled with the season opener, loved last week’s, am anxiously looking forward to next week but last night left me cold.
The entire episode felt disjointed and their usual rhythm was gone. I know many of you will say it was because the brothers weren’t together but I don’t think that’s the case. We’ve had other episodes with parallel storylines that worked, but this one didn’t.
Fringe: The Curious Case of Kirk Acevedo
September 21, 2009 by Cynthia
One moment we’re looking inside an empty car and a moment later a body comes hurtling through the window of said car from the inside out. Fringe is back and it’s as mind bending as ever. From the body count to spotting the Observer, fans are once again mulling over every tiny detail and there are plenty to be mulled.
For me, the biggest question is one that crosses the boundaries of reality — was actor Kirk Acevedo telling the whole truth on his Facebook last spring or was it part of a planned ruse?
DO I NEED TO SAY THERE ARE …read more
Vampire Diaries Review: Night of the Comet
September 18, 2009 by Cynthia
Boys, look away. I’m going to be totally girlie here and say last nights episode of Vampire Diaries was hot! And I’m talking about Stefan and Elena. Sure, they’re a sweet pair of star-crossed lovers but Damon — oh Damon. Come bite me, baby. I’m all yours.
Now that I have that out of my system, here’s what I thought of Night of the Comet!
Supernatural Review: Good God Y’All
September 18, 2009 by Cynthia
If you read my review of last week’s Supernatural, you know that I wasn’t all that fond of it. My husband said I always dislike the openers but my love always grows exponentially from there. I hate to admit it, but he was right.
For me, “Good God Y’All” should have been the season opener. It had drama, action, humor and fabulous brother angst, not to mention a whole cast blast from the past. I am in love with Supernatural once more.
The episode can be dived into the three parts. The opening was all about Bobby and Castiel, effectively getting both …read more
Defying Gravity: The Season Finale?
September 14, 2009 by Cynthia
I know TV seasons are getting shorter but eight episodes do not a season make. Still, ABC slapped the season finale label on last night’s episode of Defying Gravity, despite the fact that there should be thirteen episodes in the run.
That label, coupled with the fact that the show has been pulled off the TV schedule, indicates cancellation, but Futon Critic says it isn’t so – sort of. According to them, a rep for the ABC series denied the cancelation, saying Defying Gravity was always due to go off the air this week to make room for the new season …read more
Supernatural: Sympathy for the Devil Review
September 11, 2009 by Cynthia
In early Greek theater there was a device known as the deus ex machina – God from the machine – a crane that would deliver an actor who was playing a God on to the stage at the last moment in order to help the hero get out of a jam. Though it was commonly used for several centuries, many literary geniuses have warned against the use as it goes against the logic of the story and thus is considered bad form. (Yes, I know I’ve sung this song before, but read on.)
For example, on last night’s episode of Supernatural, …read more
Defying Gravity: Fear
It’s Halloween and for the crew of the Antares that means more tricks than treats as their hallucinations become more realistic and more frequent. Bad news for Mission Control, as they’re hoping to get a ten million dollar payoff from a candy company for producing the first commercial from outer space.
