So, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised or concerned to hear that the keymaster of the Dollhouse will be sliding over one spot to direct an upcoming episode of Glee.

Michael Ausiello broke the news on his EW blog, so you can head over there for more details but really, what more do you need to know other than it’s going to be the best episode of the new musical comedy ever — and probably the weirdest. Can’t wait.

If you’re interested in reviews from TV critics, then Merlin is fair to middling. Fan girls, however,  have found enjoyment in the Arthur / Merlin bromance but purists may find the story strays too far from the classic.

Having said all that, it does star Buffy’s Anthony Stewart Head, so how bad can it be? I guess we’ll all find out together this Sunday at 8:00 when Merlin: The Series makes its US debut on NBC.

First up:

With a letter from his mother revealing his innate ability to practice magic, Merlin (Colin Morgan) arrives in the city of Camelot to find Gaius (Richard Wilson), the Court Physician. Gaius takes Merlin under his wing to keep him out of trouble. Eager to discover his new surroundings, Merlin sets out to see the sites of Camelot and meets Arthur (Bradley James), a young bully who challenges him to a duel. After being thrown in jail for standing up to Arthur, Merlin attracts the attention of others in Camelot, including Gwen (Angel Coulby), Morgana’s (Katie McGrath) young maid and most importantly, King Uther Pendragon (Anthony Head), who will forever change the course of Merlin’s destiny.

As you can imagine, the fans went wild. Buffy without Joss? Sacrilege! I say, baloney. I fully admit that Joss Whedon was 100 % responsible for the phenomena that was Buffy. It was his direction, his wit, his creative genius that made that show the icon that it is today. However, that doesn’t mean the franchise should be put out to pasture just because he’s no longer involved. Have we already forgotten Star Trek? J.J. Abrams admitted that he wasn’t a huge fan of the original series, and yet he did an excellent job of paying homage to the original while still giving us something new and exciting.

Says Hollywood Reporter, “Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon.” This could mean remaking the first movie with a darker, more modern tone (likely removing that tongue from the cheek) or even shifting the story to a new slayer. How long has Buffy been out of high school? Could be time for some fresh blood. There’s also a potential for films based on the various slayers throughout history, but I think this would be the least likely choice if they’re looking for a reboot.

The truth of the matter is, the Kuzuis brought Buffy to the public in the first place. It was their belief in the core idea, cheerleader by day, monster slayer by night, that got the show on the air. Yes, it was Joss Whedon who molded the concept into the one we love, but there comes a time when all of us parents must step away and let our children go out on their own.

I love the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I’d like to see that concept portrayed on the big screen. I’d prefer a bigger version of the witty series we all know and love, but I wouldn’t say no to a dark and scary Grudge version either.

The Doctor’s theme has a rather interesting origin story. Composer Ron Grainer came up with the theme and Delia Derbyshire produced it by combining a tape loop of a struck piano with white noise created by filters and test oscillators. Let’s hear it for the Whedon Brothers! They’re here every night and don’t forget to tip your waitress.

Joss Whedon, brothers Zack and Jed and stars Felicia Day and Nathan Fillion were all on hand for the Paley Festival salute to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog. It all went down on April 14th at the Arclight in Hollywood and I’ve got the pictures to prove it.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

People reports that little Satyana Denisof was born March 24 and how wild is this, that’s Hannigan’s birthday too. Hannigan told people her strange pregnancy craving was ginger ale. She said she also felt a little absent minded during the process. Hannigan told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres she felt like a stoned Koala bear. There’s an image I can’t even completely wrap my head around.

But because it came from Alyson Hannigan, it suddenly sounds like a cool thing to say. I’m going to call someone a stoned Koala bear at the next available opportunity. Seriously though, congrats to one of SFUniverse’s favorite couples!
