Wanted and X-Files Hit DVD This Week

December 3, 2008 by brian

xfiles1-thumb1 It’s a simple enough recipe. Throw some wicked Matrix-like special effects, lots of gunplay and Angelina Jolie into a film and make over $100 million. Oh, that is unless you call it Tomb Raider.

Wanted is an adaptation of a hit comic by Mark Millar and J.G Jones. The movie stars the aforementioned Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman. McAvoy is a put upon office geek who suddenly finds out he has superpowers allowing him to become a badass assassin. Jolie and Freeman are his guides into the world of superpowered killing sprees.

The plot doesn’t matter much more than that, really. It comes in single, two-disc and Blu-Ray of course. There’s also a collector’s set that will lighten your pockets by nearly $70. It comes with a photo booklet, movie postcards and a framed 3-D cell.

Slipping in theaters this summer with considerably less hoopla was The X-Files:I Want to Believe. The reunion of Mulder and Scully took too long for audiences to care anymore. This one slipped in and out of the cinema quicker than those sneaky aliens Mulder’s always looking for.

X-Files Fans Don’t Believe at Box Office

July 30, 2008 by brian

xfiles1-thumb1 This past weekend’s big sci-fi release -  wasn’t so big. While the truth may still be out there, not a lot of moviegoers were interested in finding it. The X-Files: I Want to Believe bowed in fourth place with only $10.2 million. It garnered mixed reviews and Fox execs are still trying to put a positive spin on things and say it will turn a profit. But considering it got trounced by the likes of Step Brothers and Mamma Mia, that’s not very likely.

The X-Rated Files? Duchovny and Company Talks to TVGuide

July 8, 2008 by Cynthia

TVGuide_XFiles “Even my wife [Tia Leoni] doesn’t know anything about the story,” says David Duchovny to TV Guide while on the Vancouver set of The X Files: I Want To Believe, which opens on July 25thin movie theaters. “When she sees the movie she’ll be completely surprised.” He pauses, “Well, she does know one very important thing I can’t talk about, which nobody should know.”

For Duchovny, the initial script reading with co-star Gillian Anderson was more sentimental than our actual reunion.

“I realized that Gillian and I have changed over the years, but when you start reading these people, they haven’t. They are the same and they feel the same way about each other.”

What way is that exactly?

Duchovny grins. “There’s definitely some skin in this movie,” he reveals. “And not all of it is being flayed or ripped apart. There’s some Gillian skin, and some of mine. Maybe that’s the movie’s Big Secret. Maybe this time around, it’ll be more like The X-Rated Files.”

X-Files Film Has Official Title

April 17, 2008 by brian

X-Files Movie Photo

The second X-Files movie now has a title. Variety says it will be called X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Apparently six years have elapsed since the end of the series and the film sequel, slated to hit theaters July 25.

Show creator Chris Carter is keeping pretty tight-lipped about the movie’s plot but has said it would stand on its own as a story. Carter told SCI FI.com’s Sci Fi Wire that he wants to “scare the pants off you” like a really good episode of the show.

Since he said “really good” I’m assuming that means no appearances by Robert Patrick or Annabeth Gish. I’m just saying.

X-Files Movie Wraps

March 17, 2008 by Cynthia

651678_alien There aren’t many movies that hold a press conference just to say, “that’s a wrap!” But then The X-Files have always done things a little differently.

Chris Carter and David Duchovny (Gillian Anderson canceled due to illness) were on hand on Thursday to field questions from the press about the film and though the truth may be out there, you weren’t going to hear it from either one of these guys.

Carter seemed rather amused by the attention the film got while in production but he stuck to his guns about keeping the plot a secret.  “To tell you the truth,” he said, “I would like to make the movie secretly and put it out there on July 25, have everybody get a gift they could open.”

Carter also claimed that the video of Mulder and Scully kissing, which was passed around on the Internet, was staged purely to throw off speculating fans.

You can read the entire story at The National Post, an interesting read but you won’t come away knowing any more than you knew when you went in.

Amanda Peet On the Set of X-Files Movie

December 12, 2007 by Cynthia

peet_xfiles.jpgTerminator over on the Celebutopia forum posted some great behind the scenes photos of Amanda Peet on the set of the new X-Files movie. Take a look!

The Vancouver Sun added a few more details to the project stating Peet signed on along with Rapper Xzibit and Scottish comic Billy Connolly. Though Fox is keeping the plot ultra-hush-hush, sources say that Xzibit and Peet will be playing FBI agents as well.

The movie began principal photography on December 10th, apparently unhampered by the current writers’ strike.

SciFi on DVD for 11/6/07

November 6, 2007 by Cynthia

It’s Tuesday! Time for the brand new DVD releases to hit the shelves.

drwhodvd.jpgTop on the list, it’s Doctor Who: The Complete Third Season. David Tennant dons the scarf with Freema Agyeman at his side this go round. The set includes one of my favorite episodes, where the Doctor meets Shakespeare as well as an appearance by the charming Captain Jack Harkness. Not to be missed.

Next, also from our friends across the pond, The Day of the Triffids mini-series. This six-part UK series was made in the 80’s and is a great retelling of the classic novel. Give it a shot.

And finally, it’s The X-Files, the Ultimate Collection, and it really is!   There are 61 discs in this set covering all nine seasons, the movie and the mythology featurettes from previous DVDs.  You’re going to have to shell out around $250.00 for this baby, but if you hawk your old DVDs on ebay, you can finance the cost of this super, cooler, edition.

Fox Sets Date for X-Files Return

November 1, 2007 by Cynthia

xfiles.jpgThat’s Fox the studio, not Fox the person, but he’ll be there too in July of 2008. According to Variety, the X-Files movie is now a go and will begin shooting in Vancouver this December.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will be back playing Mulder and Scully, and Chris Carter will be at the helm. Other than that, the studio is keeping hush-hush about the plot, saying only that it is a totally stand alone story and a “supernatural” thriller. Supernatural? Does that mean the duo will be hunting ghosts instead of aliens?

Can Scully and Mulder be returned to their former glory? I’ll be first in line at the box office to find out.
