While checking on this week’s Fringe, I decided to pop over to the Dollhouse section of the Fox website and I found some new promo pics from the pilot. The photos really catch my eye, but I’m really not sure what to make of this show. Early trailers didn’t impress me at all, now there’s been this ‘retooling’ and new trailers have more bite to them.

It seems like the perfect show for FOX, a mix of scifi and action with a cult favorite lead (Dushku) and creator (Joss Whedon) at the helm. Personally, I’ve never been a big fan of female-centric action shows with Buffy and Sarah Connor being the rare exceptions. But then, both of those shows are highly dependent on the supporting players so I guess that’s the make or break point for me. I hope to be pleasantly surprised and Dollhouse will become one of my favorites.

In the meantime, enjoy the pics!

DOLLHOUSE: Eliza Dushku as Echo. DOLLHOUSE focuses on a secret organization that employs “Actives” — a group of operatives who have their memories and personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with new ones, allowing them to take on various missions for hire. The Actives don’t just act like new people, they become new people, yet they are never aware they are pawns in someone else’s game in DOLLHOUSE premiering Friday, Feb. 13 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

With the holiday, I forgot to remind everyone that Jericho is back on The CW on Sundays. Sorry, no new episodes but it’s a pretty unprecedented move for the netlet — running a defunct TV series during primetime. They aired the first episode yesterday which means next week we’ll have “Fallout.”

If you’ve never seen the series, this is a great way to give it a try. After all, what else is there to watch at 7:00 on a cold, wintery Sunday night?

Jericho: “Fallout“

Air Date: December 7 at 7:00 on The CW

RACING FOR SHELTER — With only an hour before the fallout from the nuclear blast in Denver hits Jericho, Jake (Skeet Ulrich) rushes to get the townspeople inside and away from the rain so that they won’t get radiation poisoning. When Jake and the others find that the official shelter is in disrepair and unusable, they have to come up with other protection fast. Meanwhile, Emily (Ashley Scott) and Bonnie (Shoshannah Stern) are held hostage by two men posing as police officers. Jon Turteltaub directed the episode written by Stephen Chbosky (#002).

Well, other than many of us never having physically met each other. Now that I think about it, there are countless extended members of my own family I haven’t met (and more that claim they’ve met me that I never recognize) but that’s a whole different story. I thought I’d take the time to point out a few things SFUniverse is thankful for this year.

A Second Full Season of Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles- The days of strong women like Buffy Summers and Xena on TV have returned, at least for the first two seasons of this great show. Though ratings show it’s one of the best shows most people aren’t watching, FOX has agreed to give it a full second season to spread its wings. Perhaps a pairing with Dollhouse on FOX’s new sci-fi themed Friday lineup will be just what both those shows need. And it won’t hurt that Dollhouse features another strong lady in Buffy alum Eliza Dushku.

The Floodgates Opening For Sci Fi and Comic Book Movie Adaptations- The success of films like the X-Men series
means many more of these projects are on the way and in the works. May 2009 will bring us J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek revamp and a Wolverine solo film. Word is that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool could get his own spinoff from that project. And yes, it’s true all these movies won’t be great. But with any luck there will be more films as great as the first Matrix, and less films like - the third Matrix.

Next Year We Will Finally Find Out Who the Final Cylon Is- Lost in the hoopla of finding an extremely scorched Earth was the question that has plagued Battlestar Galactica fans since the end of Season 3. Who is the Final Member of the Cylon Race? It’s cliffhangers like this that keep us coming to back to our favorite shows despite casting changes, new producers and the questionable things our favorite characters do sometimes.

Our Legion of Adoring Fans: Seriously, without you guys we would just be talking amongst ourselves here. While that’s a lot of fun too, that’s not the goal. It’s a blast debating what our favorite shows, actors and directors should and shouldn’t do.

We love the passion of Jericho fans that refuse to let their show go quietly into the night. We love the Smallville fans, divided between the half waiting for Lois and Clark to figure this love thing out and the half that would like Lois to die in the Doomsday conflict. We love the Supernatural fans and even their wars between the Sam and Dean faithful. We’re not just here for you, we’re here because of you. If a heated debate starts in the forest but no one is there to hear it, it doesn’t make a sound and it certainly doesn’t generate site hits. No, I did the research. Heated Debate in the Forest.com was a dismal Internet failure. I’m still weeping a little about it.

All kidding aside, we love you guys, your passion for the genre and your at times brutally honest comments. I’m talkin’ to you, Carebear. Readers, what sci-fi goodness are you thankful for this year?

Smallville Episode 8.10 “Bride”

Air Date: November 20, 2008.

This one is more than a little late, folks. I was down sick last weekend and am still digging my way out. And before the haters suggest it, I am not sick of Lois. Sadly, this is the last bit of Smallville action we’ll see until January 15.

Things begin with Lois and Clark filming a video congrats to Jimmy and Chloe. Clark is, of course, thoughtful and sincere. Lois makes one of her dad’s off color jokes about marriage and immediately wants that edited out. Next we cut to the wedding and after the loving couple exchange vows, there’s a loud crash and much chaos. The next thing we see is Chloe leaning over a very badly injured Jimmy asking him not to leave her. Something comes toward Chloe and she screams. Time for a flashback of the last eight hours.

Lois is in charge of the proceedings and is power tripping as usual. She talks to Jimmy about wedding day jitters and he says there are none when you know you’re marrying the right person. I disagree. My wife is perfect and I almost fainted about five times during that wedding. But I digress. Jimmy tries to suggest the inevitable Lois and Clark pairing but she insists that’s a bad idea.

She gets a little sentimental holding Clark’s suit and the camera guy gets the whole thing on tape. She wants that edited out too. At this rate, Lois won’t even appear in the video. And some of our fans will be just hunky dory with that.

Jimmy goes and sees Chloe on the wedding day. He realizes that’s bad luck. Dude, you seriously have no idea. She tells him they’ve weathered federal arrests, amnesia and killer kisses from alien princesses. They’ll weather this. I always wonder why anyone lives in Smallville/Metropolis. But if any of these folks left, they’d just move to Gotham City I imagine.

Jimmy leaves and Chloe gets a call from Davis. She ignores it. Oliver shows up and wedding be damned, he wants to go find Lex. There’s some convoluted plan about a wireless “ghost router” that won’t work without Clark. Ollie thinks Clark is just using the wedding as an excuse to not get Lex. He reminds Clark how important Chloe is and Clark explains that Jor-El mindwiped Chloe’s memories of anything Kryptonian. Clark, don’t you read DC Comics? Mindwipes never work out.

Clark does go and get the router but won’t give it to Ollie until after the wedding. He’s afraid Ollie will kill Lex if he finds him. But one of Ollie’s underlings downloads the material needed during Clark and Ollie’s spat. Oh, you crazy Smallville kids!

Lois talks to Chloe and there’s another call from Davis. Chloe mentions the whole “you’re marrying the wrong man” exchange. Chloe needs something borrowed and goes through Clark’s stuff and finds a piece of Kryptonite. Dude, how about putting that somewhere not just anybody can find it in two seconds? They got the naive part of Clark Kent right for sure. He talks her into wearing a flower from an old school dance, not nearly as lethal. That mindwipe is already paying big dividends there, C.K.

We cut to a warehouse where supposedly Lex is doing his evil thing. Ollie arrows Lex in the head and it turns out to be a mannequin with a note “Sorry I Missed You.” Before Ollie can curse Lex’s name, he gets kicked in the head by - Lana? So she’s a ninja now? OK. After they argue about secrets and such, Ollie talks Lana into going to the wedding. Yeah Ollie, you didn’t want to go to this wedding either before Lex outsmarted you.

At the Kent house, the Boy Who Would Be Superman is befuddled by - cuff links. Wait till Lex finds this out, he’ll cook up some Kryptonite cuff links that Clark won’t be able to escape! Now we get the most random piece of sexual innuendo in TV history as Lois explains the secret of cuff links: “It has to stick up straight so you can slide it right in.” Man, I need to find a pair of cuff links. I don’t remember them being quite so - sexy.

More awkwardness as Clark starts saying sweet nothings and Lois turns around to respond. But he was only reading Jimmy’s wedding vows aloud. Oops. And those calls from Davis? So not romantic. He’s gone killing again and is covered in blood. He’s dumping the evidence but a cop shows up. Davis warns the officer to get away but it’s too late - the bone protrusions come out and it’s killin’ time again.

Chloe and Jimmy do at least get married before all hell breaks loose. Chloe and Clark have a dance and she says recently she feels like a weight was lifted from her shoulders. Clark and Lois have a dance and almost kiss - but Lana’s surprise entrance ruins that. Lois starts downing champagne. Um Lois, didn’t you ruin the engagement party by getting drunk? Just saying. She and Ollie talk about her problems and he’s known she was crushing on Clark for a while now apparently.

Lana gets a cell phone message that asks if “the archer” believes her. Clark comes up to her and they have awkward conversation about her leaving. She’s read about the mysterious savior of Metropolis and she’s proud of Clark. Doomsday crashes the party before Lana and Clark can work through their issues. Clark tries to punch him and gets thrown upstairs, right next to the block of Kryptonite. That’s why that stuff shouldn’t just be laying around, Clark. Lana gets rid of it but Doomsday makes off with Chloe.

Oh, and Jimmy tried for a save, which didn’t go very well. He’ll be flown to Star City where one of the best internal surgeons is. Doomsday takes Chloe back to the Fortress of Solitude where she has Brainiac eyes. Also, we see a bald head with wires plugged into it. Could this be Lex? We’ll have to wait until January to find out.

A Massive Dynamic employee (guest star Ptolemy Slocum) is so convinced he is being attacked by butterflies that he jumps out of a window to escape them, and the team is called in to investigate. Although Olivia’s unexplained interaction with Agent Scott (Mark Valley) leads to breaks in the case, she is so desperate to rid her consciousness of him that she demands to go back in the tank. Meanwhile, the gig is up for Peter when a former friend – and some current foes – find out he’s back in Boston.

Arthur Petrelli tells the new Sylar-Elle team to go get Claire Bennet. Arthur shows Mohinder a picture he drew of what appears to be a dead Claire and Arthur tells Mohinder he has no idea what’s going to happen today.

Sylar and Elle go to a rental car place where Elle tells the clerk Sylar is a serial killer and has kidnapped her. Hey, only half of that’s true. For some reason she wants to turn Sylar back into a killer although she was really upset about doing it before. Go figure. Claire and HRG go to the house where they confronted the guy with black hole powers. They alternate between teaching Claire to fight and arguing about what a bad daddy Noah is.

Sylar and Elle get there but the eclipse has happened. There’s a funny line when Elle asks if the Haitian is in the house. Without their powers, Noah gets the drop on them but Elle grabs a gun and tries to kill Noah. Claire, not noticing that people’s powers are failing left and right, throws herself in front of the bullet.

Noah takes her back to the Bennet house where Claire is happy to be able to feel pain again. Sandra wants to take Claire to the hospital but Noah tells them it’s a surface wound and he can fix it. Besides which, he expects Claire to regain her powers and heal up anyway. But she has a relapse and Sandra takes her to the hospital. Meanwhile, Noah takes a sniper rifle and goes after a now powerless Sylar.

The eclipse takes everyone’s powers away and it’s up to Mohinder to find out why. Mohinder is relieved, since his new powers were transforming him into some sort of bug thing. He wants to find Maya, but Arthur and Flint have other plans. Flint gets rough with Mohinder and explains that without powers he’s nobody. Flint doesn’t want to be a nobody anymore. You know, Flint, you’re not all that with your powers.

Angela is looking for people too. She tells Daphne and Matt Parkman to find Hiro. Daphne is upset because she betrayed both Matt and Arthur, thus she wonders how anyone could trust her. Hiro and Ando show up, guided by the 9th Wonders comic book. Ando tells Matt to fix Hiro but Matt can’t because 10-year-old Hiro thinks in Japanese. Daphne and Matt argue with Daphne asking Matt if he trusts her. He pauses for a few seconds before answering yes.

Daphne explains to Matt that for a speedster, seconds are like hours so she doesn’t believe he trusts her completely. He reads her mind about her home in Lawrence, Kansas and Daphne promptly runs there. Hiro teleports everyone there but the eclipse happens. Everyone is powerless thus Matt can’t use his thought powers to convince Daphne’s dad to let him in to see Daphne.

Hiro begins throwing corn at Matt, telling him the corn will stop when he accesses the hero within. Matt catches an ear of corn and waits until Daphne’s dad leaves. He goes up to the door which turns out not to be locked (gotta love living on a farm in Lawrence, Kansas) and goes in. Daphne explains that she didn’t want Matt to see her “like this,” and we get a big reveal - apparently Daphne was handicapped before she gained superhuman speed.

Hiro and Ando go to the local comic store because “It’s Wednesday! New Comic Book Day!” Seth Green tells them not to worry, there are enough “Red Hulk” comics for everyone. Green and Breckin Meyer realize the 9th Wonders book is coming to life around them.

Nathan and Peter have been asked to bring in the Haitian. Actually, Angela asked Nathan and Peter is just being an annoying, tagalong little brother. They argue about Peter’s future trip in which Nathan is Arthur’s puppet. Before too long the Haitian shows up and tells them he will not leave until he captures his evil brother, who is also currently powerless. Peter suggests they help him and before he and Nathan can finish arguing, the military forces led by the Haitian’s brother Baron capture Nathan. Nate tries to swing some political clout but Baron explains Arthur warned them Nate was coming. Tracy is talking to Arthur on the phone while appearing to work at Primatech with Angela. Whoever knows what Tracy’s up to, really.
