Buffy The Vampire Slayer

People reports that little Satyana Denisof was born March 24 and how wild is this, that’s Hannigan’s birthday too. Hannigan told people her strange pregnancy craving was ginger ale. She said she also felt a little absent minded during the process. Hannigan told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres she felt like a stoned Koala bear. There’s an image I can’t even completely wrap my head around.

But because it came from Alyson Hannigan, it suddenly sounds like a cool thing to say. I’m going to call someone a stoned Koala bear at the next available opportunity. Seriously though, congrats to one of SFUniverse’s favorite couples!

Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof, or as our readers may know them better, Willow Rosenberg and Wesley Wyndam-Price, are expecting. Hannigan’s rep Megan Moss shared the news with People Magazine this week.

The couple met on the set of Buffy The Vampire Slayer during the 1999-2000 season. Denisof would continue with his Watcher character Wesley on the critically acclaimed Buffy spinoff Angel. Hannigan is famous not only for her stint as Willow but as Jason Biggs’ love interest in the American Pie movie series.

Hannigan currently stars in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. There’s no word yet on whether the show will write her pregnancy in or just work around it. Congrats to the lucky couple!

Warner Bros. video-on-demand service The WB.com will be offering some of our favorite genre shows when it launches later this month. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the list of shows that will be available day one include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its spinoff Angel, Firefly, Babylon 5, Smallville and Roswell.

WB.com will be supported by premium and is scheduled to launch Aug. 27. B5 and Buffy on demand? Sign me up twice, please! What shows are you looking forward to checking out again online, readers?

With a small but intensely loyal fanbase out there, there is some talk that the dearly departed CBS drama Jericho could return as a movie. The short-lived Joss Whedon sci-fi western Firefly came back as a movie that was critically acclaimed but didn’t make tons of money.

But executive producer Carol Barbee told Sci Fi Wire she’s open to the possibilities.

“There’s definitely an Internet series to be had, and we always talked about a graphic novel, and … a movie,” Barbee said. “I mean, there are lots of things that I could easily see as a way to continue the story.”

The second X-Files film is on its way this summer and of course there’s a little show called Star Trek that managed to live well past its initial run on TV. The Star Trek films were a huge part of that resurgence. Another possibility Barbee touched on was some sort of graphic novel. That’s a road that has been successfully navigated by cult favorites Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel. Both those shows are continuing where the TV adventures left by taking the story into comic books. Whatever happens, Jericho’s impact looks to last longer than its one and a half seasons on CBS would dictate.

The franchise’s famous aficionados, among the best in sci-fi or any genre kept the movement going and now Star Trek is one of the most profitable and recognized brands there is. IDW is presenting a slate of highly anticipated Star Trek comics we’ve talked about here. D.C. Fontana, who IDW refers to as the “Grande Dame” of Star Trek, will helm the continuation project.

It will begin with “The Enterprise Experiment,” a sequel of sorts to the classic Trek episode “The Enterprise Incident,” also written by Fontana. In that episode, Capt. Kirk goes undercover as a Romulan to steal that race’s cloaking technology. In the new story the Federation tries to adapt the stolen tech and of course, things don’t go as planned. Kirk and Spock end up on an Enterprise phased out somewhere between time and space. Oh, and the Romulans don’t take the theft lying down and stage an attack at this most inopportune time.

Other canceled shows that have carried their stories to comic books include genre faves Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Comic books allow them to be free of restrictions like worrying about a special effects budget, or whether the show before them is a good lead-in. As a comic book fan myself I love the idea, I just hope we’re not reading the continuation of Jericho in book form next year.

According to a story at TVGuide.com, Angel creator, Joss Whedon has teamed up with comic publisher IDW to produce to what amounts to be Angel: Season 6. The comics will pick up right where the series left off, bringing some closure (and new thrills) for fans of the show.

“We’ll catch up on which characters survived, how they survived, and the considerable changes Angel and others have gone through,” says publisher Chris Ryall. “And never fear, because überevil law firm Wolfram & Hart has lots of power in these netherregions.”
