Caprica to Premiere at Film Festivals
Caprica, the much mulled over spin-off of Battlestar Galactica won’t premiere on TV until January of 2010. But if you live in either Woodstock, NY or Austin, Texas you can get a sneak peek this October.
Syfy is launching Caprica at several film festivals including the Woodstock Film Festival which begins this Friday, October 2, and runs through Sunday, October 4.
Caprica Producer/Director Jeffrey Reiner and star Esai Morales will attend the Austin Film Festival Saturday, October 24 screening as well as participate on panels.
There was also a screening last week in San Diego, so if anyone was there, stop on …read more
Casting Coups: Marsters, Torres and More
August 20, 2009 by Cynthia
I’m sure you’ve already heard about James Marsters joining the cast of Caprica but today I got the official press release and I adore the description of his character.
Marsters will play dangerous terrorist leader Barnabus Greeley. Driven by moralistic and yet carnal desires, this unpredictable villain is constantly torn by his conflicting motivations.
Sounds like a role he was born to play!
It’s funny, years ago, I interviewed James when he was just starting out on Buffy. I asked him what he loved most about playing the role of Spike and he said he loved that he could fight all …read more
Comedian Oswalt to Guest on Caprica
August 17, 2009 by Cynthia
It seems like an odd casting choice, putting a stand-up comic like Patton Oswalt (seen here on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien) on a dramatic series such as Caprica. But, since he’s playing a comedic talk show host, I guess it all works out fine.
Though not generally known for his genre work, Patton has appeared on Dollhouse and Reaper. It’s more likely that you know him from Reno 911 or as a voice actor from anyone of a dozen popular cartoons and video games.
Caprica, premieres January 22, 2010 on Syfy.

Battlestar Galactica Comic Con Exclusives
NBC Universal has out done themselves again this year with a fun bunch of Comic Con exclusive items. The odd thing is that you can’t actually buy any of these items at Comic Con, you have to buy them from the NBC Store. At a quick glance it appears that the items will be mailed to you, versus pick up at the con so it doesn’t matter if you’re going, you can still get these cool items. (If I’m wrong on this, let me know).
The biggest item is a new Battlestar Galactica Cylon Toaster. It bakes a Cylon face into …read more
Syfy Asks You To Imagine Greater
July 2, 2009 by Cynthia
With the switch rapidly approaching, the channel formerly known as Syfy has released a charming new promo video that is meant to capture the feel of the new brand.
I’ve always enjoyed SCI FI’s imaginative ads, seeing people and things transform right before your very eyes. This new promo takes it even one step further as some of the network’s stars come out to party in a truly magical castle.
The biggest difference I see between this new promo and the old ones, is the warmth and happy tone. The original ads were cool but always very sterile and simple — truly …read more
Syfy Announces Their Comic Con Schedule
June 30, 2009 by Cynthia
Making the brand change from SCI FI to Syfy, the (insert name here) channel promises a big show at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. In addition to the usual panels, they’ll be taking over the restaurant at the Hard Rock Hotel, and re-branding it as Eureka’s “Cafe Diem” for the duration of the convention. This will act as their convention hub and I imagine that will mean lots of goodies and fun for everyone who stops by. (SCI FI Channel Photo: Liane Hentscher)
They have some great guests and lots of sneak peeks at many of their new TV shows.

Galactica Concert Comes to LA
May 29, 2009 by Cynthia
Battlestar Galactica and Caprica composer Bear McCreary will be celebrating the release of the new Caprica Soundtrack CD with two live concerts in the Los Angeles area.
First, on June 13, McCreary will conduct the music from Battlestar Galactica to kick-off the 2009 Grand Performances Series at California Plaza. It’s a free concert in downtown Los Angeles so all you have to do is show up and enjoy. Not going to be in the area? Then mark your calendar for June 16. That’s the day La-La Land Records will release the soundtrack for Caprica on CD.
Next, on July 23-25, McCreary will …read more
Battlestar Galactica at the Paley Festival Photo Call
April 22, 2009 by Cynthia
Going through the photos from the Paley Festival Battlestar Galactica / Caprica red carpet, I can only think that the heat has gotten to these poor people (it’s been over 100 degrees here) — why else would these lovely ladies be in such a cranky mood? (For a detailed report on the panel, visit The Futon Critic.)
It’s Alessandra Torressani and Paula Malcomson.
Tricia Helfer seems a bit happier to be here and then there’s the funky Seth Green
Can Caprica "Franchise" Battlestar Galactica?
Part 1
This has all happened before. And it will all happen again. That’s not just the mythology behind Battlestar Galactica, it’s what the newly christened Syfy hopes will take place where prequel Caprica is concerned.
Faced with a hole in its lineup larger than the one Boomer created when she jumped near the ship, the cable channel took a predictable step toward filling it. No show garnered more buzz, earned more pop culture resonance and became more identifiable as Sci Fi Channel programming than BSG.
