CBS has axed Secret Talents of the Stars after one airing. We got to see George Takei sing “On the Road Again” and Clint Black attempt standup comedy.
But sadly we’ll never see Ric Flair salsa dancing or Roy Jones Jr. rapping. Actually, I don’t think I’m sad about either of those things. Secret Talents drew a dismal 4.6 million viewers leading CBS to fill its timeslot with 48 HRS Mystery and new episodes of Shark starting April 29. Well, after the first Secret Talents of the Stars episode it’s clear that as a country singer, George Takei makes a great Starfleet lieutenant.
His rendition of Willie Nelson’s On the Road Again was quite painful and one judge’s comments probably got the network in hot water. Producer Gavin Polone called it the “Brokeback Mountain” version of the song, a not too veiled reference at Takei’s now well known sexual preference.
