CBS has axed Secret Talents of the Stars after one airing. We got to see George Takei sing “On the Road Again” and Clint Black attempt standup comedy.
But sadly we’ll never see Ric Flair salsa dancing or Roy Jones Jr. rapping. Actually, I don’t think I’m sad about either of those things. Secret Talents drew a dismal 4.6 million viewers leading CBS to fill its timeslot with 48 HRS Mystery and new episodes of Shark starting April 29. Secret Talents joins a group including Fox reality show Anchorwoman and internet-born NBC flop Quarterlife, all getting the hook after a single low-rated airing. Maybe they should have gotten Uhura to reprise her dance routine from Star Trek V. No, they’d have canceled that in mid-broadcast.

Well, after the first Secret Talents of the Stars episode it’s clear that as a country singer, George Takei makes a great Starfleet lieutenant.
His rendition of Willie Nelson’s On the Road Again was quite painful and one judge’s comments probably got the network in hot water. Producer Gavin Polone called it the “Brokeback Mountain” version of the song, a not too veiled reference at Takei’s now well known sexual preference.

Takei played it off well, reminding viewers he was “coming out” as a singer on this show. Takei wasn’t one of the two stars picked to advance, those honors going to [...]
Post from: SF Universe

Takei played it off well, reminding viewers he was “coming out” as a singer on this show. Takei wasn’t one of the two stars picked to advance, those honors going to Clint Black and Sasha Cohen. Black tried his hand at standup comedy and wasn’t too bad. Cohen showed her skills as a contortionist. Hey cheer up George, maybe William Shatner can get you into a Priceline commercial.
