True Blood Cast Parties at Tabu

On May 2, the cast of True Blood celebrated their second season with a party at TABU Ultra Lounge at the MGM Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The paparazzi were on hand to shoot some snaps as these creatures of the night stalked the red carpet.
Stephen Moyer, Anna Paquin, Sam Trammell, Kristin Bauer and Alexander Skarsgard came together for a group photo. You’ll find some individual pics behind the cut.

The second season kicks off June 14 on HBO.

True Blood Gives Us A Stake In Things

True Blood Gives Us A Stake In Things

The marketing geniuses at HBO are well – marketing geniuses. I remember before the premiere of hit vampire drama True Blood, they sent out vials of the synthetic blood to TV reviewers.
OK, it wasn’t real fake blood, I mean, you know what I mean. It was a beverage made to look like fake blood. The point is it got my attention. Admittedly free stuff often does that, which is why companies do it.
But a New Zealand True Blood promotion is letting everyone get in on the act. The promo posters actually come with stakes you can break off in …read more

Paquin Wins Globe for True Blood

Paquin Wins Globe for True Blood

In what has to be considered an upset, True Blood star Anna Paquin walked away with the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Drama. It was a star-studded race including the likes of Sally Field and Kyra Sedgwick.
Blood was up for Best TV Drama but lost out to critical darling Mad Men. It’s another important development for what is becoming a breakout hit for HBO. True Blood was the only new show to draw any love in a Globes ceremony that celebrated old favorites like 30 Rock and Law & Order. The Globe joins Paquin’s best supporting …read more

TelevisionWeek Poll Praises True Blood

True Blood, HBO’s freshman supernatural tale of vampires, shapeshifters and mind-readers is still getting great buzz. In a TVWeek semiannual Critics Poll, the freshman series placed fifth among TV writers’ favorite shows. That made True Blood the only new series to place in the top 10 and one of only five new shows to make the top 25.
The show has also garnered two Golden Globe nominations. It debuted to modest viewership but kept growing through word-of-mouth and now HBO estimates as many as 7 million people watch the show. That number includes HBO’s numerous weekly rebroadcasts and …read more

HBO Adapting Game of Thrones

HBO Adapting Game of Thrones

The Hollywood Reporter tells us HBO could be getting into the fantasy game, as it has ordered a pilot for Game of Thrones.  The show is based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Fire and Ice” series of novels.
The success of vampire drama True Blood is cited as a reason that Thrones might jump to the front of a crowded group of pilot orders. HBO has 10 other pilots in consideration but is only expected to pick up six. True Blood is a very unconventional vampire show and HBO likes shows that break free of genre conventions. Take, for …read more

True Blood Lacks True Believers

True Blood Lacks True Believers

The long-discussed debut of True Blood has come and gone to a largely “meh” reaction from viewers including our own Cynthia, and a host of critics. Vince Horiuchi of the Salt Lake Tribune said the show is full of style and not much more. He wasn’t captivated by the story, drama or thriller elements, calling True Blood “anemic.”
The L.A. Times’ Geoff Boucher is among the writers that liked the show and calls the first two episodes “simply fantastic.” Readers, did you watch True Blood? If so, what’s your take? Do these vampires make you thirsty for more or do you …read more

Paquin Talks Vampires – And Drama

One of the most high-profile genre shows debuts this Sunday on HBO, vampire series True Blood. I’ve promised Cynthia I’ll stop calling it “That Show Where Rogue from the X-Men Fights The Vampires.”
Anyhow, it’s getting a lot of publicity because it’s HBO and because it’s the return of Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball to the pay cable network. Expectations are a little high for this one, shall we say? Star Anna Paquin has an interview with the National Post where she talks about how excited she is to be a part of this show.
She has signed up for …read more
