Our Heroes and Villains are left powerless by the eclipse and nothing will ever be the same! No, this time we swear. Peter follows The Haitian, wanting to prove he’s a hero without his powers. The Haitian (Seriously, will someone start calling this guy by name? It’s been three years already.) is worried but Peter explains Baron Samedi is powerless too.

He’s still just as evil and arrogant, however, and is preparing to rape a young girl. Before doing so, he taunts Nathan. Samedi proclaims himself a god and says as a man, Nathan can’t hope to defeat him. Whatever, Baron. Let a guy like Gaius Baltar show you how to run a love cult. Although I will give Baron this much: As far as powers go, flying’s lame in comparison to stone skin. Sorry, Nate Dogg. While Samedi is torturing the young girl, the Haitian sneak attacks his brother. Samedi warns that the only way to stop him is killing him. Nate and The Haitian flee while Peter picks up a machine and goes all Rambo to hold off the pursuers.

Of course they come back, just in time for the end of the eclipse. Nate flies Samedi into a car but with powers returned, it does nothing to hurt Samedi. I told you stone skin trumps flying. The Haitian stops his brother by ruining his mind. Nate and Peter talk, with Nate explaining he’s going to work for Pinehearst. Such a company could prevent people like Samedi from coming to power, Nate says. Score another one for Petrelli brother dumbness. Nate then flies off and leaves Peter but does leave a cellphone for Peter to call for help. Thanks bro! Really appreciate it.

At the hospital, Claire is infected because her powers have prevented her from being sick a day in her life. The nurse questions Sandra Bennet and calls for the police. HRG is of course not there because he’s hunting Sylar and Elle. Claire apologizes for putting them all in this situation and then dies - until the eclipse returns. They get out of the hospital before any questions can be asked.

Sylar and Elle are still macking on each other when HRG begins shooting up the place. They get away but Elle gets shot in the leg, leaving a blood trail for Noah to follow. While they bandage up her wound, Elle suggests trapping HRG. Problem being without their superpowers, they really can’t fight a lick. To compound matters,Sylar locks Elle up in a dumbwaiter so she can’t participate in the fight. The numbers game was really the only shot they had. HRG easily handles Sylar and slits his throat with a boxcutter. Don’t worry, he’s not dead. The eclipse is over.

Now with that being done or so he thinks, HRG can finally go check on his dying daughter. She’s upset he wasn’t there when she died, then HRG realizes what must have happened to Sylar. Sylar and Elle burst in with their powers blasting and are ready to take Claire. But Hiro shows up and teleports Sylar, Elle and Claire out of the house. Sylar and Elle talk with Sylar deciding that he is a killer. He begins ripping Elle’s head open but hey, I didn’t see a body so I’m not declaring her dead yet.

Hiro and Ando buy all the back issues of 9th Wonders while Seth Green freaks out majorly. After much reading backwards, 10-year-old (at least in his mind) Hiro finds out about all the horrible stuff that’s going to happen. He locks himself in the bathroom and only the wisdom of Seth Green can talk him out. He explains that Hiro needs to come out and save the world to give people hope. Reading the last comic, Hiro sees himself and Claire watching Kaito Nakamura give baby Claire to Noah Bennet. He theorizes that if he takes Claire there, he’ll get his memory back. I have no idea why that works, but OK.

Matt and Ando want to find out what happens next but there are no more 9th Wonders comics. Seth Green tells them that there was one final issue supposedly given to a bike messenger. This is epic, folks. Seriously, Green and Hiro in a comic shop made this episode.

Speaking of Matt, he and Daphne continue pledging their love to one another but she doesn’t believe she’s worth his trust. Daphne feels she should be punished for working for Arthur but Matt still believes in her. Once her powers return she’s going to run again but Matt talks her into reconciling with her dad. Nice work, Matt. Want to take a crack at resolving the Petrelli family issues now?

Mohinder beats Flint into a coma and goes to find Maya. But by the time he gets there, the eclipse is over and his scales are returning. Maya answers the door and he’s gone – back to Pinehearst. Arthur gives voice to what Mohinder was already thinking. Maybe the aggressiveness isn’t a side effect of transformation. Maybe it was there all along.

Sylar and Elle go to a rental car place where Elle tells the clerk Sylar is a serial killer and has kidnapped her. Hey, only half of that’s true. For some reason she wants to turn Sylar back into a killer although she was really upset about doing it before. Go figure. Claire and HRG go to the house where they confronted the guy with black hole powers. They alternate between teaching Claire to fight and arguing about what a bad daddy Noah is.

Sylar and Elle get there but the eclipse has happened. There’s a funny line when Elle asks if the Haitian is in the house. Without their powers, Noah gets the drop on them but Elle grabs a gun and tries to kill Noah. Claire, not noticing that people’s powers are failing left and right, throws herself in front of the bullet.

Noah takes her back to the Bennet house where Claire is happy to be able to feel pain again. Sandra wants to take Claire to the hospital but Noah tells them it’s a surface wound and he can fix it. Besides which, he expects Claire to regain her powers and heal up anyway. But she has a relapse and Sandra takes her to the hospital. Meanwhile, Noah takes a sniper rifle and goes after a now powerless Sylar.

The eclipse takes everyone’s powers away and it’s up to Mohinder to find out why. Mohinder is relieved, since his new powers were transforming him into some sort of bug thing. He wants to find Maya, but Arthur and Flint have other plans. Flint gets rough with Mohinder and explains that without powers he’s nobody. Flint doesn’t want to be a nobody anymore. You know, Flint, you’re not all that with your powers.

Angela is looking for people too. She tells Daphne and Matt Parkman to find Hiro. Daphne is upset because she betrayed both Matt and Arthur, thus she wonders how anyone could trust her. Hiro and Ando show up, guided by the 9th Wonders comic book. Ando tells Matt to fix Hiro but Matt can’t because 10-year-old Hiro thinks in Japanese. Daphne and Matt argue with Daphne asking Matt if he trusts her. He pauses for a few seconds before answering yes.

Daphne explains to Matt that for a speedster, seconds are like hours so she doesn’t believe he trusts her completely. He reads her mind about her home in Lawrence, Kansas and Daphne promptly runs there. Hiro teleports everyone there but the eclipse happens. Everyone is powerless thus Matt can’t use his thought powers to convince Daphne’s dad to let him in to see Daphne.

Hiro begins throwing corn at Matt, telling him the corn will stop when he accesses the hero within. Matt catches an ear of corn and waits until Daphne’s dad leaves. He goes up to the door which turns out not to be locked (gotta love living on a farm in Lawrence, Kansas) and goes in. Daphne explains that she didn’t want Matt to see her “like this,” and we get a big reveal – apparently Daphne was handicapped before she gained superhuman speed.

Hiro and Ando go to the local comic store because “It’s Wednesday! New Comic Book Day!” Seth Green tells them not to worry, there are enough “Red Hulk” comics for everyone. Green and Breckin Meyer realize the 9th Wonders book is coming to life around them.

Nathan and Peter have been asked to bring in the Haitian. Actually, Angela asked Nathan and Peter is just being an annoying, tagalong little brother. They argue about Peter’s future trip in which Nathan is Arthur’s puppet. Before too long the Haitian shows up and tells them he will not leave until he captures his evil brother, who is also currently powerless. Peter suggests they help him and before he and Nathan can finish arguing, the military forces led by the Haitian’s brother Baron capture Nathan. Nate tries to swing some political clout but Baron explains Arthur warned them Nate was coming. Tracy is talking to Arthur on the phone while appearing to work at Primatech with Angela. Whoever knows what Tracy’s up to, really.

When last we left Hiro, Arthur was doing his mental mojo. Ando tries to stop Arthur and gets swatted away like a bug. But Arthur sees Usutu’s painting of an eclipse and goes to examine it further. That gives Ando time to talk to Hiro, who now thinks he’s 10 years old. Ando makes Hiro blink his eyes, thus teleporting them to a bowling alley in Tokyo. Ando teaches Hiro how to use his powers again. Hiro proceeds to stop time and play a series of pranks on people at the bowling alley. After learning to teleport again, Hiro and Ando end up at a comic book shop. Hiro is distressed that Captain America is dead and the Hulk is red now. Me too, Hiro. Me too. They pick up a 9th Wonders comic and its future-telling pages explain that an eclipse is coming.

Nate goes to see his dad, who explains everything that is happening to him is part of his destiny. Arthur says Nate has always been his favorite son, the most like Daddy. (Then why did you try to kill him again, Art?) Nate has doubts. Tracy talks to Nate and then doubles back to talk with Arthur. He expects her to ask him to take her powers away. Rather, she wants to help Arthur bring Nate along with the plan. Guys, never trust superpowered girls that look like Ali Larter. Who am I kidding? I’d be working for Pinehearst too. It turns out Pinehearst is a place Arthur would take the boys fishing, hence that company’s name.

Pictured: (l-r) Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman, Hayden Panettiere as Claire Bennet, Milo Ventimiglia as Peter Petrelli — NBC Photo: Adam Taylor

Arthur wants to teach Sylar how to use his powers better, as in without killing. Arthur says he knows Sylar has a good heart, because he saved Peter from falling to his death. Arthur looks Sylar in the same cell with Elle, who’s a little pissed that Sylar killed her dad. After she lets Sylar have it with everything she’s got, she asks him to kill her. Sylar tells Elle that they both wanted to be normal but their parents wouldn’t allow it. He takes away her “pain,” but she retains her powers. Now Sylar can use them too and Elle teaches him how to use them. I don’t know, seems like she got over that whole “you killed my father” trip really, really fast. I know he wasn’t the most likable guy but come on!

Peter has gone to see Claire who wants to protect him. Flint and Knox show up and Claire jumps out a window. Meanwhile, Mohinder is doing more experiments but can’t quite the formula right. Mohinder explains to Arthur that the catalyst that allows power transfers is not a something but a someone. Arthur says Kaito Nakamura hid it, but not well enough. Um yeah, it’s Claire. Peter tells Claire that in the future she’s going to kill him. It’s Claire that Flint and Knox are after. Peter tricks Flint into using his fire powers around a gas line, allowing Claire and Peter to escape.

Matt Parkman and Daphne go to Primatech to find Angela Petrelli. A vision of Usutu leads Matt to Angela. Daphne uses her superspeed to go tell Arthur what’s happening. He warns Daphne to make sure and remember what side she’s on or go back to her former life. Not trusting Daphne to take Matt out, Arthur has a dream Daphne stab Parkman. That causes the real Matt to begin bleeding to death and the real Daphne begs Matt to take her inside his mind. This may be among the most confusing scenarios I’ve ever recapped which for science fiction is saying something.

Arthur reveals himself to Matt and tells him of all the ways the actual Daphne has betrayed him. Arthur compares it to the way Angela betrayed him. But Matt and Daphne reveal their love for each other. Angela appeals to Arthur’s humanity and he lets her go. Yeah, I don’t understand it either.

Once everyone is out, the Primatech team realizes Claire is the catalyst. Arthur uses his new pre-cog power to paint the eclipse and warns his Pinehearst charges that it’s coming.

Arthur says he’ll have one more talk with Nate and if that doesn’t work, he’ll kill him. Meredith Gordon and her flamethrower brother Flint run into Company man Thompson. Hey, it’s Eric Friggin’ Roberts! He punks them pretty effectively by himself. Where’s his “one of them” partner? We flash back to one year ago and Sylar’s going to hang himself but Elle stops him. She runs some convincing game on him. Hey, guys, would you kill yourself with Kristen Bell around? I think not. She, of course, is setting Sylar up on The Company’s orders.

HRG talks to Elle and explains how important Sylar is. Thompson begins recruiting Meredith to the company. He asks her why she hates The Company so much and she doesn’t really answer. Arthur does talk to Nate, who has no intention of dropping his investigation on Linderman. After their talk, someone tries to run Nate and his girlfriend off the road. Nate flies out of the car but his girlfriend’s paralyzed in the crash. Angela asks Arthur if he called for the hit, which he denies.

Meredith helps Thompson take down a guy who can turn his fist to metal.Meredith puts the metal guy in his cell and sees they’ve captured her brother. Flint says they’re going to make him an agent. Yeah, right. Elle brings Sylar a pie, and he shares his secret of telekinesis with her. Elle is starting to believe Sylar’s changing. Once HRG realizes Elle’s falling for Sylar, HRG decides Elle should see him Sylar “feed.” HRG says if Elle doesn’t want to follow orders, she can look for another job. Arthur and Linderman plan to attack Nate again and this time Angela hears them. She runs away but Arthur wipes her mind.

Meredith breaks Flint out, but Thompson catches up to them. She blows up a train but gets caught anyway. She explains that she hates The Company because they killed her little girl. Thompson is shocked they told Meredith her daughter Claire was dead, so shocked he actually lets her go. It turns out the fire she started is the one Claire charges into with her powers during Season One. Linderman allows Angela to know the truth about her hubby. She poisons him, and the Haitian is on hand so Arthur can’t use his powers to do anything about it.

Angela’s arranging her cover story when Nate shows up. They take Arthur to the hospital and tell the family he’s dead. He’s whisked away to the secret lab we’ve seen him in this season. The doctor tells him the paralysis will be permanent. He communicates with doc telepathically, setting up the fake death.

At Arthur’s “funeral,” Angela tells her sons not to idolize their father, who was flawed in ways they will never know. Hiro wakes up from his vision and realizes he must warn Angela Petrelli. But it’s too late, as they hear Usutu’s scream and find his severed head. Arthur tells Hiro “I hear you’ve been dreaming about me” and proceeds taking Hiro’s powers.

Hiro, as you probably suspected, rigged Ando’s “death.” He stopped time and teleported to get a fake sword and fake blood. Knox says Hiro’s in, and that he’s taking Adam Monroe to the boss. Daphne and Hiro argue about Ando’s death, she assigns him to take out the African painter. She warns him that catching a guy who can see the future won’t be easy.

Spoilers here! Somebody dies! I’m serious!

Pictured: Jamie Hector as Knox — NBC Photo: Adam Taylor

Claire goes crimefighting with Mrs. Bennet, who drops a “one of us, one of them” reference. Somehow I don’t think soccer moms are the one of us The Company had in mind. Puppet Master Guy plays minds games with Meredith, even threatening to make her kill herself with a broken wine glass. This guy is not a fun dinner date. Knox does take Adam to the boss, Arthur Petrelli, who drains Adam’s power to get healthy again, killing Adam.

Daphne throws away Matt Parkman’s file and Linderman shows up and threatens her with death if she tries to leave Pinehearst. Just then, Parkman gets off the plane, complete with his magic African turtle. She and Matt go to have a talk and tells her they’re married in the future. She thinks he’s insane until he tells her the girl was named Daniella after her grandmother. Tracy and Nate Petrelli find Suresh, who they don’t know is evil now. He injects them with something that makes them pass out. Right before Nate fates out he sees Suresh’s wall of prisoners.

Daphne tries to break Sylar out but he won’t go. Instead, he frees Peter and explains their mother is in danger. Peter tells Sylar in the future he had learned to control the hunger, which gives Sylar hope. That’s right, heroic Sylar for the fans. Hiro goes to get the precognitive painter and sees a picture of himself getting clocked with a shovel. Then, of course, the painter clocks Hiro with a shovel.

Ando suggests Hiro simply go to one minute before he got hit. Hiro reminds Ando he’s vowed never to go back in time again. But they both agree one minute couldn’t hurt. So Hiro goes back one minute and the exact same thing happens. This time Hiro decides to do it the “old-fashioned” way: waiting for his quarry and hiding.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Bennet is just as bad at crimefighting as you might expect. Puppet Guy quickly sees through her snooping around ruse and ends up catching her and Claire with his powers.

Daphne finds Suresh (and his food) then decides he’s as “bad as the rest of them.” He tries to grab her but of course can’t lay a hand on her. Puppet Guy makes Claire play Russian Roulette with her moms. First he gets Claire to shoot at Mrs. Bennet and the chamber’s empty. But he doesn’t know Claire’s power, so when he forces Mrs.Bennet to shoot Claire she does. The villain turns his back, Claire quickly recovers and knocks him unconscious.Noah is impressed with Claire’s work, but she’s still ticked at him. Meredith explains that Claire doesn’t really need either of their help.

And speaking of unconscious people, Peter and Sylar find Angela in a coma. Peter tries to get inside her head and all he sees is the Pinehearst Company logo. Noah is impressed with Claire’s work, but she’s still ticked at him. Peter and Sylar fight, with Peter winning and leaving Sylar in the lab. Tracy tricks Suresh into coming close to her (easy to do when you look like Tracy/Niki) and freezes him, then her bonds and frees Nate. He hurls a piece of furniture at them and warns they’re not done with this fight yet.

Sneaking up on the painter works, and he explains the whole thing was a test. Hiro had become too reliant on his powers, our precog explains. He tells Hiro that he can follow the villains’ orders or choose another path. One of the paintings on his wall is Peter and Nathan hugging each other.

Peter is shocked to see his father alive and for some godforsaken reason agrees to give him a hug. Daddy Petrelli promptly jacks Peter for his powers and we’re done with this one. Peter, Peter. So powerful, so incredibly dumb.

Linderman and Nate chat with Nate not believing Linderman’s contention he could be an angel. Tracy wants to know who he’s talking to and Nate blows it off. Peter confronts Angela, Sylar stops him from killing her. That hunger, man, it’s for real.

Mrs. Bennet figures out Claire went after one of the Villains. And bio-mom Meredith goes after her. Suresh kidnaps a drug dealer, presumably for purposes pertaining to Suresh’s new powers. Claire finds the villain that makes vortexes and tasers him.

Meanwhile, Hiro and Ando finishing digging up Adam. Hiro says if Adam doesn’t help them, he’ll end up back in the coffin. With little choice, Adam agrees to help them search for the formula. Daphne and Linderman talk about recruiting for a new company, Pinehearst.

Pictured: Hayden Panettiere as Claire Bennet — NBC Photo: Adam Taylor

Portal guy tells Claire she’s wrong about him and teleports away the taser. So young, so idealistic, so dumb. Claire really is part Petrelli.

Portal guy explains it was an accident and he got locked away without the benefit of a trial. He explains that he just wants to see his family again and Claire helps call them.HRG and Sylar show up and the guy creates a portal and runs away, Sylar of all people saves Claire from falling in. HRG convinces Claire to tell them where he’s going. Daddy tells Claire if what the guy told her is true, then he doesn’t have anything to worry about and even promises to help him. Anybody buying this? Claire is, sigh.

Portal guy’s family never showed at the meet he had arranged. HRG tries to get the guy to kill Sylar with a portal and offers to let him go if the guy will kill our fave villain. No deal, with his family not wanting any part of himself the guy makes a portal and kills himself instead.

Nate and Tracy argue about why she wanted to kill herself. Nate asks her where the powers are from, if not from God and she says from a doctor in California.

Maya has a flyer of her missing neighbor and realizes something’s bad wrong with Suresh when she sees the blood in his lab. Maya comes back and finds her neighbor in some sort of – bug goop and begins digging him out. When Suresh returns, she hides and almost kills them with her power. Suresh tells her she doesn’t want to be a killer again. It looks like Suresh is fine with killing though, as he puts her up there with her neighbor.

Adam, Hiro and Ando go to a bar where specials are for hire. Hiro says the place is like “The Cantina.” I love Hiro. But there’s a bar brawl because the bartender apparently really, really hates Adam and Hiro gets knocked out instead. Adam escapes into the night.

Nate and Tracy confront Angela, who explains The Company gave Tracy and her sisters their abilities, as well as Nathan. Tracy tells Angela they had no right to play God and Angela said that is why they split up the formula.Nate explains to Tracy that a guy named Suresh, who he says is harmless, will help them. Yeah, that harmless guy is about to eat Maya.

Adam gets caught by Knox, who asks what he should do with the Japanese guys. Apparently he’s told to recruit them as that’s what they do. Well, actually to recruit Hiro. Hiro and Ando tell Daphne they’re “badasses” now. Knox gives Hiro a sword and says if he’s a badass, he’ll kill Ando. Hiro does it! I’m assuming this is a trick of some sort.

HRG, Sylar and Claire arrive at the Bennet home and Sylar tries to convince Claire that her dad is a monster too. I think that may actually be dawning on her. When she runs in to see her mom, Mom explains she’s so glad Meredith found Claire. Claire, not having seen Meredith, has no idea what Mom is talking about. Meredith has been caught by a mind controller who’s making her kiss him, eat dinner with him and making me thank God this is not an HBO show.

Angela has visions of Peter killing Nate, Tracy and Sylar. Daphne argues with Linderman, and mentions she doesn’t know why she can’t sneak up on him. She finds she can put her hand straight through him - he’s, well I’m not sure what he is but that explains why nobody can see him talking to Nate. Linderman asks her to recruit Matt Parkman.

Parkman’s dad is working for Arthur Petrelli, who’s in a seeming vegetative state but apparently able to communicate with Papa Parkman through the magic of telepathy. Wow, my head hurts a little bit after this one.

Thanks to the Level 5 escape, Future Peter doesn’t know where to find well – himself, either. The Villains begin a bank heist and their leader Knox realizes there’s something wrong with Jesse/Peter. Noah’s partner The Haitian is unavailable so it’s the Noah and Sylar show! During the heist, The Flamethrower wants to assault a woman and Jesse/Peter stops him. Claire’s moms fight about whether she should go to school. Claire wants to go fight crime and pretends she’s going to school but begins training with her biological mom Meredith Gordon.

Meredith’s idea of training is locking Claire in a metal shed and heating the place up until Claire begins to suffocate. She keeps asking Claire the real reason she wants to fight crime and Claire finally admits she wants to get back at Sylar. Boy, talk about your tough love.

Hiro finds Daphne who has already sold the first half of the formula. But The Haitian’s here and none of their powers work. Tracy missed Nathan’s swearing in and talks to him and about trying to find Niki. Nathan still can’t believe Tracy’s not Niki. Tracy shows Nate the video and says she’s going to New Orleans to find answers.

Knox kills The German who just wanted to take the money and run. Knox says they wait for the company and beat HRG’s glasses into his head. Still stuck in Africa, Matt Parkman is on “spirit walk” with a man that paints the future and the painter also notes that Parkman isn’t supposed to be there. Parkman is shocked to see his life painted out on the rocks.

The speedster Daphne tries to divide Ando and Hiro by taunting Ando about being a “sidekick.” Knox figures out Jesse’s not Jesse and tricks Actual Peter into revealing as much. Sylar seems like a natural at this cop thing, faking being an FBI agent to perfection and taking control of the crime scene. HRG goes in alone, armed with only a bulletproof vest to keep up appearances for those watching.

Hiro has a plan to get formula by pretending The Haitian has the wrong suitcase. Ando doesn’t follow the plan, hitting The Haitian from behind. While he’s unconscious that gives Daphne enough time to steal the suitcase. But The Haitian gets his wits back in time to catch Hiro and Ando, placing them in a cell at The Company.

Tracy goes to Niki’s funeral and runs into Micah. Micah uses his power to find Tracy and Niki’s birth records. Poor little Micah hugs his mom’s twin, clone or whatever she is in a poignant scene. Peter figures out Jesse’s power just in time to stop Knox from killing HRG. Future Peter shows up and stops time then takes Actual Peter to the future to show him what happens. That leaves Noah in trouble. Sylar shows up and then Force chokes (I mean telekinesis chokes, heh heh) Jesse out. The Flamethrower makes a move and HRG guns him down. Not a bad team, not a bad team at all. That is until Sylar reverts to his old ways and kills Jesse.

Tracy finds the mysterious Dr. Zimmerman, he thinks she’s one of the others and says he created her. Claire sneaks out from her house and despite what she told her mom, she is not going to a cheerleader retreat.
